Your 2020 Hanukkah Gift Guide

by GatherDC Staff / November 24, 2020

The thing about holidays is that they come every year, no matter what. They anchor us in our lives – creating markers for growth and change, and infuse normalcy and comfort at times like this when nothing feels familiar.

Particularly with Hanukkah, this holiday brings us a reminder about the importance to spread light to those we are grateful for. Even if we are unable to be in-person with those we love this year, we can share our appreciation with the beauty that is 2-day shipping.

With that, we bring you this year’s Hanukkah Gift Guide – curated just for you, our DC and NoVA family. Here are 8 fabulous gifts with extra meaning this year for everyone on your list (including yourself)!

1. For the Washingtonian on-the-move

You may have seen her murals around town. Or, perhaps you remember reading about her as a Jewish Artist of the Week? Now you can bring Rose Jaffe’s unique style anywhere you go with this cool DC face/map tote bag. (Retail – $25)

2. For the Jewish ethicist

This graphic novel about Jewish ethics by NYC-based artist, Jessica Tamar Deutsch, makes for the perfect read for anyone looking to make the world a better place.

Her artwork may look familiar as it’s featured on our new NoVA merch including “Worth the Schlep” and “Virginia is for Latkes” wear. Be sure to follow her on Instagram too. We love her stuff! (Retail – $24.99)

3. For those with DC neighborhood pride

We love these awesome DC neighborhood t-shirts made by local, Black-owned Bailiwick Clothing company. From Adams Morgan to Petworth, there’s something for every Ward. (Retail – $25)

4. For the Jewish tastemaker

For those of us still putting on jewelry even just for a Zoom meeting, Ariel Tidhar’s spirited Judaica is the perfect way to show your Jewish pride. We love everything she makes, but these hamsa studs are pretty stellar. (Retail – $49)

5. For the scholar

This year has certainly called us to the Jewish idea and tradition of Tikkun Olam, repairing the world. For the scholar in your life, we recommend this Jewish Book Council Award winner, Changing the World from the Inside Out, by David Jaffe. (Retail – $15.00-18.95)

6. For the GatherDC super-fan

Yes! It’s true. We have merch now and it’s available at our Bonfire store! Check it out! All proceeds go to us, and it’s filled with the punny goods you’ve come to know and love including one of our newest wears fit for the season – “Virginia is for Latkes.” It’s what Virginia meant to say, we’re sure. (Retail – $24.99-35.99)

7. For the beer lover

Bringing in the holiday cheer with beer? We highly recommend checking out the Hoptimist Holiday Market brought to you by Heurich House and DC Brau. And, for those of us who secretly coveted the Advent calendars our friends had growing up, we can now enjoy a Hoppy Hanukkah Craft Beer Box. Satisfy your inner child with a new beer from across the country every night of Hanukkah. Hmm..that didn’t come out right. (Retail – $75)

8. For the untraditional traditionalist

This gorgeous Hanukkah menorah from Matana is perfect for that person on your list who cultivates a unique home. Like all of the items in the Matana Gift Collection from Maskit, this colored porcelain piece was crafted by an Israeli creator. (Retail – $310 / Extra bonus! Just for our readers, use promo code Hanukkah for 10% off retail!)
