Jewish Dog of the Month: Sammy!

sammy

Sarah: What is your name?

Sammy Ruth.

Sarah: Where did your name come from?

Sammy: I’m originally from North Carolina, but my mom and dad took me in after I was rescued from a hoarding situation.

Sarah: What is your favorite way to spend a day in DC?

Sammy: I love meeting other dogs and sniffing their bums. I also love watching my mom and dad play softball. My favorite thing to do is swim, especially at the Shirlington Dog Park. I’m not very coordinated on land, but in the water I’m a doggy olympian.

Sarah: What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Sammy: People tell me that I’m so pretty all the time. I know people check me out when I’m walking around Arlington with my owners. I’m a catch and I know it.

Sarah: What is your favorite thing to do when you think no one is looking?

Sammy: Eat trash off the street. It’s the best!

Sarah: Who is your best friend?

Sammy: My dad. He wrestles with me, which is so much fun!

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Sammy: A sloth, I’m super lazy.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Sammy: Passover. I really like the yummy fish we get to eat!

Jewish Cat of the Month: Bruce!

Want to nominate your awesome doggy (or cat!) to be featured? Email Sarah Brennan and let her know.

bruce catSarah: What is your name?

Bruce Katz.

Sarah: How did you get to DC?

Bruce: That’s a good question! I don’t really remember because I was a baby. I do remember that I used to live in the basement of an apartment building. It was very scary! Thankfully the animal shelter found me after I was injured and they nursed me back to health, but there’s no medicine as good as an owner who loves you. Except for penicillin.

Sarah: Who is your best friend?

Bruce: My best friend is my roommate Meeko! He usually eats all of the food. Sometimes, he wakes me up at dawn while meowing for food. We like to gallop around the house and playfully fight each other. I hope one day I get to make another cat friend!

Sarah: What is your biggest pet peeve that your owner does?

Bruce: I don’t understand why my owners sing to me all of the time. They sing to me in the morning when they’re getting ready to leave for the outside, and when they come back they sing at me more. I’ve always wondered if they sing to everybody in the outside too.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Bruce: I love Purrrrrrrrrim!

Sarah: My biggest fear is….

Bruce: FOMO!!! I hate missing out on a good time, so I like to hang out with my owners whenever they’re home or they bring over any extra humans.

Sarah: I get most excited when…

Bruce: My owner plays mid-2000s Lil’ Wayne or The Boss himself!

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Bruce: A ram. The Jewish significance of the ram really speaks to me. And I also head-butt others when I want attention.

Jewish Dog of the Month: Scruffy!

scruffy

Sarah: What is your name?

Scruffy

Sarah: Where did your name come from?

Scruffy: Have you seen me? It’s the pawfect name for me with my wiry hair and my beard!

Sarah: How did you get to DC?

Scruffy: I got to DC by way of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. I was a stray in South Carolina (can you believe that?!), and they picked me up and brought me to DC at three months old. I was only five pounds. (Now I’m a healthy 17 lbs, in case you were wondering.) I feel very lucky.

Sarah: What’s it like living with your owner?

Scruffy: Erika? She’s the best! I mean, she gives me Beggin’ Strips, leaves DogTV on when she goes out, and she sings Broadway show-tunes in her (ahem…our) room. Oh, and those belly rubs…

Sarah: What is your biggest pet peeve that your owner does?

Scruffy: Erika is a total night owl, and she leaves the light on until like 2 am! I need to get my beauty rest. She does let me sleep in, though, so it’s all good.

Sarah: If a genie could grant you 3 wishes, what would they be?

Scruffy: 1) For my my favorite dog that Erika fostered this year, Kiki, to come back. We had a special bond. 2) A chicken-scented blanket. 3) No more baths!

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Scruffy: I’ll go with a fox! Even though I’m small, I have a BIG personality (just ask the doggies I torment when Mom brings me to her WeWork office with her). Also, I always have something going on in my head.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Scruffy: Passover. Umm… brisket leftovers. Need I say more?
