Jewish Dog of the Month: Scruffy!

scruffy

Sarah: What is your name?

Scruffy

Sarah: Where did your name come from?

Scruffy: Have you seen me? It’s the pawfect name for me with my wiry hair and my beard!

Sarah: How did you get to DC?

Scruffy: I got to DC by way of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue. I was a stray in South Carolina (can you believe that?!), and they picked me up and brought me to DC at three months old. I was only five pounds. (Now I’m a healthy 17 lbs, in case you were wondering.) I feel very lucky.

Sarah: What’s it like living with your owner?

Scruffy: Erika? She’s the best! I mean, she gives me Beggin’ Strips, leaves DogTV on when she goes out, and she sings Broadway show-tunes in her (ahem…our) room. Oh, and those belly rubs…

Sarah: What is your biggest pet peeve that your owner does?

Scruffy: Erika is a total night owl, and she leaves the light on until like 2 am! I need to get my beauty rest. She does let me sleep in, though, so it’s all good.

Sarah: If a genie could grant you 3 wishes, what would they be?

Scruffy: 1) For my my favorite dog that Erika fostered this year, Kiki, to come back. We had a special bond. 2) A chicken-scented blanket. 3) No more baths!

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Scruffy: I’ll go with a fox! Even though I’m small, I have a BIG personality (just ask the doggies I torment when Mom brings me to her WeWork office with her). Also, I always have something going on in my head.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Scruffy: Passover. Umm… brisket leftovers. Need I say more?

Sarah: What is your name?

Chloe: My name is Chloe, although my mom, her boyfriend Dane, and my Aunt Natalie have a ton of nicknames for me – Chlo Rida, Chloesephina, Chlo Chlo, Chloodle… needless to say, I prefer Chloe.

Sarah: How did you get to DC?

Chloe: I was found wandering outside a Home Depot in Montgomery County (which is disgusting because I am entirely too beautiful to be wandering around parking lots) and my rescuer took me to Montgomery County Animal Services & Adoption Center. I got my check-up (perfect health, obviously) and my mom adopted me within a day of my arrival! No surprises there – again, way too beautiful for the shelter scene.

We took a completely relaxing and not at all stressful ride down to Columbia Heights, and I’ve been there ever since! Well, except when Mom leaves me to go on one of her dumb trips. But, she always comes back for me 🙂

Sarah: What is your favorite food?

Chloe: I really like the Friskies Canned Prime Filets with Chicken (what? I have taste.), but the second I see even a speck of the bottom of my bowl peeking out between those delicious morsels, I’m done, Mom’s gotta mix it up or I’m not touching it. She thinks it’s so cute.

Sarah: What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Chloe: This might sound conceited but honestly, people can’t believe how beautiful and friendly I am when they meet me. Like, yes, I have super-model good looks, but I’m still really approachable, you know? I love meeting new friends and I have to say, I have a sparkling personality. I’ll do anything for those chin scratches.

Sarah: Who is your best friend?

Chloe: I’ll tell you who it is not my best friend. it is NOT my mom’s family’s EXTREMELY annoying dog. He is so obsessed with me. When Mom drops me off there – so she can go gallivant around the world – it is sooo annoying. He runs up acting like he wants to… play. Ugh. He couldn’t tell a feather wand from a laser pointer.

But other than Mom (because it’d be super lame to tell her she’s my best friend and she has no chill), my best friend is my Aunt Natalie. She keeps her room MUCH nicer than Mom does (messy much?) and it’s so cozy. I love curling up on her bed when they’re at work, and the nice combing she gives me every night while we’re all watching TV together.

Sarah: Finish this sentence – My biggest fear is….

Chloe: That one day, against all evidence to the contrary, Mom will leave one day and never come back. Every time she leaves, I like to hit her with the extra-wide kitty-cat eyes (we’ve all seen Shrek – you know the look) and I really lay it on thick. Hasn’t worked yet, but hey, a girl’s gotta try.

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Chloe: I assume you meant spirit human, because I AM an animal, in which case – April Ludgate. But spirit animal? A princess unicorn lioness. Regal, rare, and beautiful.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish food?

Chloe: Two words: gefilte fish.

Sarah: What is your name?

Tabitha: Tabitha, but my mom has A TON of nicknames for me. Tabby, Tabby Tabs, Taberella, etc.

Sarah: Where did your name come from?

Tabitha: The lovely people at Lucky Dog Animal Rescue named me Tabitha. When I lived in South Carolina, my name was Beverly. But, I try to forget both that name and the bad times I had while living there.

Sarah: What is your favorite food?

Tabitha: I love salty foods, just like my mama! Multigrain Tostitos and saltine crackers are my faves.

Sarah: What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?

Tabitha: So, I think it’s actually the best compliment my dog mommy received…when her boss told her that we look alike!

Sarah: What is your favorite thing to do when you think no one is looking?

Tabitha: I may or may not have flipped over the garbage can and dragged stuff all through the house…three times.

Sarah: Who is your best friend?

Tabitha: Besides my humans? I guess, my dog uncle who I get to see whenever we drive to Rochester, New York to visit my mom’s parents. He’s a bichon poo, and we love chasing each other all around the house.

Sarah: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday and why?

Tabitha: Since my mom works for a Jewish organization, she’s not home for a lot of the holidays. But, one she is always home for is Hanukkah. I love all the Hanukkah lights, the blessings, and sufganiyot. Since my mom doesn’t like jelly donuts, she usually gets cream filled ones, and I get a little cream filling on the tip of my nose!

Sarah: My biggest fear is….

Tabitha: That my mommy leaves me and doesn’t come back. Whenever she leaves I wait by the door and sometimes whine. And when she gets home, I jump and dance, and squeak with excitement until I get some quality tummy time from her.

Sarah: I get most excited when…

Tabitha: …my mommy comes home! Lately, I’ve also started to enjoy hearing the harmonica and singing along.

Sarah: What is your spirit animal?

Tabitha: Remember the original Jurassic Park movie? Well that Velociraptor and I have a lot in common if you disturb me when I’m sleeping.
