  • Free Press in a Free Society with Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia

Give a Hoot Comedy 16143 Shady Grove RD, Gaithersburg, Maryland, United States

A free press is one of the bedrock principles of American democracy. However, in recent years, amid extreme polarization, the media has come under scrutiny for how they deliver the news, while public figures have demonized the journalism industry and stoked anger among viewers.

Once-revered journalists like Murrow, Cronkite, Woodward and Bernstein have been replaced in part by a new generation of news professionals who emphasize social media views and sensationalist commentary over accurate and well-sourced information.

Our distinguished panel of diverse journalists will discuss how we arrived in an era where the weaponization of information has become commonplace in media and the public discourse. We'll also assess whether the Fourth Estate can still be a beacon of truth in our deeply divided society and what can be done to regain the trust of skeptical consumers. Audience Q&A to follow panel discussion.

    Panelists:
Marvin Kalb, veteran journalist, author, and Founding Direct
