Shalem: The Enlightenment and Jews of Bordeaux with Tifereth Israel Congregation April 26, 2025 @ 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm Moishe House Arlington RSVP for address , United States Associate Professor of History at Shippensburg University and TI member Allan Tulchin specializes in the study of social and religious history of France between 1500 and 1800. Drawing from his research, as part of a book he is now preparing, he will speak about the Enlightenment and Jews of Bordeaux. Dr Tulchin is the author of That Men Would Praise the Lord: The Triumph of Protestantism in N”mes, 1530-1570 (Oxford, 2010), he is currently completing a book entitled The Enlightenment, the Atlantic, and the French Revolution: Catholics, Protestants, and Jews in Eighteenth-Century Bordeaux. Dr. Lieberman will talk about the Guide, its significance throughout Jewish history since its publication, its contemporary significance, and the act of translation. In his scholarly work, Dr. Lieberman explores the life of the Jewish communities of the Islamic world in the medieval period and has written extensively about Jewish economic and social history.
