Sips and Shavuot: Religion, Mental Health, and Healing with Abrahamic House

May 21 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Shavuot, a Jewish holiday celebrated seven weeks after Passover, commemorates the moment the Israelites stood at the base of Mount Sinai to receive the Torah Historically, it also celebrated the Yom HaBikkurim, or the day of “first fruits,” of the spring harvest, a time of physical and spiritual abundance.

In Jewish tradition, we honor the revealing of the Torah through Tikkun Leil Shavuot, a custom of staying up through the night to study. We dive deep into complex texts, share dairy-rich treats like cheesecake, and lean into the idea that learning is a lifelong journey.

This Shavuot, we are moving beyond the traditional text study and exploring an important kind of revelation: our own minds. Just as the Torah provides a blueprint for a just society, understanding our mental health and well-being provides the blueprint for a resilient life. Join us as we welcome Georgetown Professor Elizabeth Antus to bridge the gap between faith, mental health, healing, and suffering, with a lecture titled, “The Spiritual Dimensions of Mental Health Suffering & Healing: Christian and Buddhist Perspectives.”

This event will take place on Thursday, May 21, at 7:00PM.
