D.C.’s Jewish landscape has changed drastically over the past few years. Jewish 20s and 30s who used to solely live in Dupont or Capitol Hill, have now migrated to such foreign lands as Arlington and Montgomery County. The pandemic ignited this migration, along with a deeper and more widespread search for authentic spirituality. Young Jewish professionals crave a community that’s accessible to them throughout the DMV.
In this search for greater authenticity, 2239 decided to move Metro Minyan, our monthly Shabbat experience, to Washington Hebrew. No longer gathering in downtown churches to celebrate Shabbat, our 2239 participants now grace the Temple halls as they pray during our accessible and musical Shabbat service, and eat and create community together over dinner.
