    ÒAddressing Antisemitism in Today's World' to Feature Prominent Jewish Policy Leaders
    In response to the alarming rise of antisemitism across the U.S. and globally, Temple Rodef Shalom invites the community to a vital panel discussion titled ÒAddressing Antisemitism in Today's World' on Sunday, May 18 at 6:00 PM at the synagogue's campus in Falls Church, Virginia.

    This free and public event will bring together influential voices in Jewish leadership to examine how antisemitism shows up in modern society, how it is perpetuated, and what steps individuals and communities can take to address and dismantle it.

    The discussion will be moderated by Rabbi Jeff Saxe and feature three distinguished panelists:
    ¥ Rabbi David Saperstein, former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom and Director Emeritus of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism

    Opportunities to hear directly from World War II veterans are shrinking.

    We gather to honor all veterans and hear the unique and fascinating stories of these 3 centenarian heroes.

    Colonel Frank Cohn - a refugee from Germany as a young boy, Cohn joined the U.S. Army and arrived in France shortly after D Day, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He continued to serve through the Vietnam War.
    Corporal Harold Terens - served with the 350th Fighter Squadron, 8th Air Force in the UK, France, North Africa and Ukraine with Eisenhower shuttle bombing program.
    Corporal Al Jacobs - served with the Army Air Forces in India, supporting the dangerous Hump route serving Allied forces in China and Burma.
    May is Jewish American Heritage Month. Approximately 550,000 American Jewish men and women served in uniform during WWII around the world.

  • Sephardic Music with the Susana Behar Ensemble at the Library of Congress

    For almost 20 years, Susana Behar has focused her artistic career on the preservation and performance of the Sephardic musical repertoire. Passionate about the richness of traditional music and its connection to cultural memory and storytelling, she has performed across the U.S., Latin America, Canada, Israel, and Japan. In 2017 she developed and premiered her project ÔLadino Meets Latino', incorporating songs from the Sephardic and Latin American musical traditions. Her work has been featured in award-winning films, radio programs, and collaborative productions, including the Kennedy Center's celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month in 2024.

    Susana Behar was born in Havana to a Cuban family with roots in the Sephardic community of Turkey. From an early age, she was immersed in the traditional music of her homeland as well as the evocative kantikas in Judeo-Spanish (Ladino) passed down by her grandparents.     LOCATION: St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church (1525 Newton St NW). The church is .4 miles from the Columbia Heights metro station.

    POTLUCK: Please bring a dish labeled with the ingredients! Index cards, pens, and allergen labels will be available if you don't have a chance to label your dish before you arrive. The potluck will generally be in the backyard of St. Stephen's Church. In the case of inclement weather (less than 50 degrees or raining), the potluck will be inside, in the basement at St. Stephen's Church.
