Our goal is to contribute as many warm winter items as possible to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the DC area. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. Uplifting Incarcerated Voices with Free Minds with the Edlavitch DCJCC August 17, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm Join us for an afternoon of service with Free Minds Book Club and Writing Workshop! Free Minds supports incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults in the DC Jail, juvenile detention centers, the federal prison system, and reentry programs through classes and workshops focused on literary arts and social-emotional learning. Since its founding, Free Minds has provided long-term, ongoing support to over 1,500 youth and adults. Volunteers will hear from Free Minds graduates about their experiences participating in the Free Minds program, then have the opportunity to read poetry written by current students and provide positive feedback through notes and drawings. While this may seem like a small gesture, many members share that receiving such encouragement reminds them that people in the community care and gives them strength to persevere. We'll use some supplemental materials to inform our reading, but the core of our study will be the Talmud and its commentaries. Interfaith Couples Workshop with Sixth & I August 20, 2025 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm This is a four-week discussion-based course designed for couples in their 20s and early 30s who do not yet have children. The workshop is held four to five times throughout the year. This cohort meets on Wednesdays, August 6 - 27 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Rabbi Aaron facilitates a guided, nonjudgmental space for Jews and their non-Jewish partners to talk, learn, and grow - together and as individuals. Each week the class discusses case studies, written by the couples, on a specific instance that the Jewish and non-Jewish partner felt raised questions in their relationship. Text studies and articles supplement the class. Couples should make time for an additional hour each week to discuss the case studies with their partners. The Capital Qvellers are a queer Jewish social group of young professionals that gets together for monthly Shabbat dinners and occasional other events.
