Help replenish the blood supply in the DC metro area!

It's safe, easy, confidential, and extremely rewarding. The EDCJCC partners with Inova Blood Services to bring skilled technicians and top-of-the-line equipment for our quarterly blood drives.

A few facts about donating blood:

-One blood donation can save four lives
-All donations stay in the Washington, DC area
-Every 17 seconds, someone in the DC area needs a blood donation
-One out of 10 people will need a donation before the age of 70
-The body quickly replaces the amount of blood given during the donation

For more information, please see the eligibility requirements for donating. Please plan on your blood donation to take about an hour from start to finish.

  • American Red Cross Blood Drive with Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia

Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. It is likely that you or someone you know will need a blood transfusion in your lifetime.

Due to recent drastic shortfalls of donations over the last several weeks, donors of all blood types are critically needed, especially those with type O blood.

The blood donation process from the time you arrive until the time you leave takes about an hour. The donation itself is only about 8-10 minutes on average. In order to qualify for whole blood donation, you must be in good health and feeling well, at least 16 years of age (with signed parental consent) and weigh at least 110 lbs. Additional eligibility criteria apply, including certain medications, medical conditions, travel to certain countries, and personal history.

    Pre-registered participants only. No walk-ins.

  • Handmade for the Homeless with the Edlavitch DCJCC

Join fellow knitters and crocheters to make handmade goodies for a great cause! Our goal is to contribute as many warm winter items as possible to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the DC area. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. Don't know how to knit or crochet? We'll teach you!

What should I bring? Please bring your own needles/crochet hooks. If you are not already working on a warm winter item and are looking for a great project or just starting out, please bring #8 or #10 knitting needles (circular or straight) or a size H crochet hook. Don't forget the patterns you're working on or want to start.

What do you supply? We provide lots of beautiful yarn, several patterns including hat patterns using #17 needles or a size N crochet hook, and experienced knitters and crocheters to teach anyone who would like to learn. If you can't join us in person, join us in spirit by knitting or crocheting hats, scarves, gloves and mittens, socks or slippers

  • Mobilize for the Future with Jews United for Justice

National Mall - Exact location will be shared with registered participants , United States

Trump's occupation of DC has been shocking and horrifying - for immigrants, unhoused people, youth of color who are brutally targeted by federal agents, and for everyone in DC who cares about their neighbors and communities. It's important and urgent to galvanize our community members behind the demands of the moment! That's why on Sunday, September 28th, JUFJ is hosting this community meeting for Jews across the District to:

    - Come together and take stock of the moment we're in
    - Ground in community, art and song
    - Discuss our strategies to support our neighbors' immediate needs
    - Learn about opportunities to take powerful action.

As we head into the Jewish New Year we are asked to heed the call to reflect, repent and renew, and ultimately turn that call into action. So, whether you've been active with JUFJ for years or you heard about us for the first time last week, this event is for you.

Light Kosher vegetarian refreshments will be provided. All ages are welcome; there
