Looking for something to do to help you celebrate Thanksgiving, or maybe looking to give back? Look no further! Here’s a round-up of events, volunteer opportunities, and resources to support your holiday experience.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Monday, November 15, 5:30pmVolunteer Night at the Capital Area Food Bank with Edlavitch DCJCC
    Help sort and pack donated food items along with other EDCJCC volunteers.
  • Wednesday, November 17, 6:30pm – Homeward Trails Animal Rescue with Moishe House Mosaic-Fairfax
    An evening of volunteering at Home Trails Animal Rescue’s adoption center in Fairfax.
  • Sunday-Monday, November 21-22, various shifts – Everything But The Turkey with Edlavitch DCJCC
    Chop, mix, grate, and prepare thousands of servings of festive Thanksgiving dishes for people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness in the DC area in partnership with DC Central Kitchen.
  • Tuesday, November 23, various shifts Slice of Life with Food and Friends
    Hand out or unload and deliver pies for the annual Thanksgiving pie sale that benefits Food & Friends, a DC-based nonprofit that provides free, home-delivered meals and groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses.
  • Thursday, November 25, 11:00 am – Community Thanksgiving Meals with Washington Hebrew Congregation
    WHC will cook and package grab-and-go meals that will be available at Temple on Thanksgiving Day. They’re set on volunteers, but are still looking for donations to help support this project.
  • Thursday, November 25, various shifts – Thanksgiving Meal Deliveries with Food & Friends
    Deliver meals to folks receiving meal delivers from Food & Friends for the Thanksgiving holiday.
