The Optimist Movie: An Intergenerational Story of Hope with Trafalgar Releasing

March 15 @ 3:30 pm - 5:15 pm
$17

Join us for the DC premiere of THE OPTIMIST — inspired by the true story of Herbert Heller, a Holocaust survivor who escaped the Auschwitz-Birkenau death march at just 15 years old.

For more than 60 years, Herbert kept his experiences hidden. Then an unexpected bond with a struggling teenager changed everything — and he chose, at last, to share his story.

Starring Stephen Lang (Avatar) and Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade), this award-winning film is a moving reflection on memory, resilience, and the power of intergenerational connection. It asks what happens when generations truly listen to one another — and how sharing our stories can bring healing and hope.

Why this moment matters: 20% of box office proceeds will directly support KAVOD’s Survivors of the Holocaust Emergency Fund, helping provide dignified care to Holocaust survivors living in poverty today.

Join us. Bring a friend. Be part of a night that honors the past, strengthens the present, and connects generations.
