Welcoming a new Jewish year can stir up a range of emotions – from thank goodness to oh my goodness. You might find yourself wondering: How does it feel to say goodbye to the year that came before? What does it mean to start a year afresh? What can I toss, and what can I keep?
Tashlich (“casting off”) is, at its core, an act of catharsis – a Jewish ritual in which we toss pieces of bread, pebbles, leaves, or sticks into a body of water to symbolically cast away regrets or disappointments from the past year. This year, GatherDC is hosting three tashlich gatherings across DC, Maryland, and Virginia with our community partners – and we would love to see you there!
You are welcome to attend one or more Tashlich – just please register in advance so we can send you the exact location. We’ll provide everything you need for this ritual – just bring a reflective mind and open heart!
