Jews and Food: Kashrut and Values for Ages 35-50 with the EDCJCC

November 12, 2025 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us in a community of others ages 35-50 while we taste, experiment, study, and schmooze in a deep dive into the practice of Kashrut. We’ll explore the origins of keeping kosher, how kosher practices interplay in pluralistic communities, and the values of our food choice. Through lively discussions, hands on experiences, and of course, food, we’ll explore questions such as: What makes dishes kosher and why do we care? Is it ever possible to have a kosher mixture of meat and milk? How do we think about keeping kosher in a community of mixed observance? As we build community, we will devote more and more time to our group’s own questions.

Each session will feature a different topic in kashrut and thought-provoking Jewish learning in great company. We’re building a cohort—so while we hope you’ll come to all six sessions, drop-ins are still welcome if that’s what works for you. This series runs for 6 sessions on Wednesday evenings November 12-December 17, 7:00-8:30 PM, and is open to folks ages 35–50 from any Jewish background. The registration fee covers all 6 sessions.

If you’ve got questions—or if cost is a barrier—please reach out to Rabbi Atara at acohen@edcjcc.org.
