Exploring Jewish Identity, Memory, and Storytelling with Embassy of Sweden

October 17, 2025 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join the Embassy of Sweden and the Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum for a special evening that explores Jewish identity, memory, and storytelling across borders—highlighting the vibrant and diverse experiences of Jewish life in Sweden.

The evening features Swedish author and illustrator Joanna Rubin Dranger, whose graphic memoir “Remember Us to Life” traces her family’s Jewish history across three continents. Guiding the evening’s dialogue is Tahneer Oksman—writer, teacher, and scholar—whose expertise will add a vital American perspective to this transatlantic exchange.

Guests will also have the opportunity to view the exhibition @stoltjude (“@proudJew”), produced by the Jewish Youth Federation Sweden and the Swedish Living History Forum. Based on stories shared on the Instagram account @stoltjude, the exhibition features weekly reflections from young Swedish Jews on their identities, memories, and hopes for the future. The exhibition is part of Sweden’s celebration of 250 years of established Jewish life—a moment to honor Jewish culture, heritage, and identity across Sweden.

Joanna Rubin Dranger’s book “Remember Us to Life” will be available for purchase in the Museum Shop.
