This landmark exhibition is the first of its kind to explore DC history, Jewish history, and LGBTQ+ history together, drawing from the Museum's robust LGBTQ+ archive. Immerse yourself in historical and contemporary photography, artifacts, and oral histories. Learn about legal milestones, far-ranging protests, vibrant cultural life, and change in religious spaces.

    The exhibition will open in time for Washington, DC's observation of its 50th Capital Pride celebration and as the city hosts World Pride for the first time, offering an unprecedented opportunity to infuse Pride with local Jewish history.

  • Jews of Color and their Families Summer Picnic with the EDCJCC

    Come hang out with other Jews of Color and their families for a laid-back summer afternoon at the park. Join us with a picnic blanket or some chairs, snacks to share, and any outdoor games you'd like to bring. We will also bring snacks, drinks, games, and other summer fun!

  • Workshop on Grief, Mourning, and Healing with the New Synagogue Project

    Step into the High Holidays with intention. The Jewish month of Elul invites us to slow down and turn inward. This allows us to gently open ourselves to an emotion we often avoid: grief. We are given the spiritual space to sit with grief to experience healthy mourning and comfort.

    ___ September 9 Workshop One will dive into resources to explore the sacred tasks of caring for mourners and end-of-life journeys. The workshop focuses on practical information while giving opportunities to share experiences and feelings of grief in a supportive and safe environment.

    __ September 16 Workshop Two will utilize the healing and creative process of Huichol yarn art, accessible to all skill levels, to process grief in a nonverbal way. There will also be small group conversations on mourning and healing as people work on their art.

    Childcare and a light dinner are provided with prior registration. Attend one or both sessions–each stands on its own while building on shared themes.

    Come learn how to braid a round challah as we prepare for Rosh HaShanah! We will make the dough together, let it rise while we shmooze about other Jewish foods, and then braid it together! You will be able to take your challah home to bake.
