Senior Director of Development to lead JUFJ's Development Department, ensuring effectiveness in meeting immediate revenue goals while thinking about long term sustainability. Reports to the Executive Director. Works closely with the Communications & Data and Operations & Finance teams, Organizers, and volunteers. Full-time, exempt position supervising the Major Gifts Officer and Grant Manager. PRIORITY DEADLINE 11/14/25.
Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership - Develop, lead, and evaluate JUFJ’s fundraising goals and strategies with Executive Director. Develop data-informed budgets and strategies for the short and long term from local, national, secular and Jewish foundations, major and grassroots donors, planned giving, and events -Partner with Executive Director and Board on major fundraising initiatives -Develop, evaluate, and refine systems to implement fundraising strategies. Ensure coordination and stewardship across JUFJ -Learn from peers about best practices -Contribute to JUFJ's strategic direction and institutional decisions -Support Collaborative for Jewish Organizing's fundraising
Fundraising -Work with Grant Manager to identify funders, develop pitches, draft and refine proposals, and ensure timely submission -Build and maintain portfolio of key funders -Oversee individual donor strategy, including grassroots fundraising, JUFJ’s annual fundraiser, and Major Gifts Officer's work -Tell compelling stories about JUFJ's mission and impact -Support Executive Director and Major Gifts Officer in high-level donor engagement and solicitation
Team Supervision and Management -Lead Development team. Create clarity about team member’s roles and responsibilities. -Supervise and support team. Provide coaching, mentorship, and accountability -Project manage cross-departmental projects like the Heschel Vision Awards and Peer to Peer campaigns. -Ensure staff have achievable objectives, resources, and support to carry out work. Effectively manage stakeholder relationships
Partnership -Set donor communication strategy and support implementation of direct mail and online fundraising activities -Support interdepartmental collaboration, fostering an ethos of strategic coordination and transparency -Establish positive relationships with partners to enable joint fundraising efforts that can increase funding for and strength of justice movements.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience: Minimum 7–10 years of progressive fundraising experience, a track record of raising real sustained money from individual and institutional supporters. Strengths in:

Management Experience: Minimum 2 years, preferably development staff. Experience using Management Center tools, managing unionized staff preferred but not required.

Collaboration Skills: Develop and maintain trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders and find common ground to advance shared work.
Project Management: Manage multiple projects, consult various stakeholders, anticipate obstacles, run a tight ship, coordinate resources, and keep a cool head.
Data Management: Experience working with staff in data management and reporting.
Eagerness to Learn: Inclination to learn, ask questions, and understand field strategies.
Belief in Mission: Credibility, Integrity, and dedication to JUFJ's mission.
Logistics: $115,000-130,000. 100% of employee and 25% of dependent medical & dental premiums covered, 3% retirement contributions, short-term disability income protection. Generous paid time off, ex. 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave and 3 month sabbatical every 7 years.
Full-time, hybrid position in Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD. Staff work in office 2 days and remotely 3 days/week. In-person meetings may be required throughout the week. Travel between offices and participation at evening or weekend meetings or events periodically required.
