SUMMARY:Erev Shavuot Service with Dairy Oneg with Temple Micah
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday\, May 21 for a dairy oneg featuring cheesecake bites at 6 p.m.\, followed by our Erev Shavuot service at 6:30 p.m. \nOn Erev Shavuot\, we mark the end of the 49-day Omer count\, and the revelation of the Torah at Mount Sinai. The service includes the ritual reading of the Ten Commandments\, the singing of Hallel\, and reflections from our rabbis. Yizkor will be read. \nThis year especially\, we are drawn to give extra voice to the traditional reading for Shavuot: the Book of Ruth. Ruth is the righteous immigrant and paradigmatic convert\, the outsider who becomes central to the Jewish story. In a time when immigrants are too often met with suspicion rather than welcome\, Ruth’s story asks us to consider what it means to open a community to the stranger. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Temple Micah \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is

SUMMARY:Refugee Shabbat with Temple Micah
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Oneg at 6 p.m.\, then light candles with us\, join in Kiddush\, and enjoy challah as we welcome Shabbat together in-person at Temple Micah or online. This evening\, we will celebrate HIAS’ Eighth Annual Refugee Shabbat to express our solidarity with the global Jewish movement for refugee protection and welcome. \nFeaturing Guest Speaker Joanne Lin:\nOur guest speaker will be Joanne Lin\, Executive Director of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs\, an organization that Sukkat Shalom has been proud to support through the generosity of Temple Micah donors. Under Joanne’s leadership\, the Lawyers’ Committee just helped score an important legal victory for immigrants\, refugees\, and religious freedom more broadly when a U.S. District Court curbed the Department of Homeland Security’s authority to conduct immigration raids at some houses of worship. \nWe’ll also be joined by several community partners doing vital work to protect immigrants\, including HIAS and Ayuda. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue;Sensory Room Available \n \nOrganization: Temple Micah \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is

SUMMARY:The Lullaby Project: Mark the Winter Solstice and Hanukkah with Temple Micah
DESCRIPTION:Come mark the longest night of the year and connect with the broader Jewish story through song with the Lullaby Project on Saturday\, December 20. Join us for Hanukkah and the winter solstice as we light the menorah and share in a genre of music that helps us ease into the nighttime—lullabies. \nLullabies are a bit like recipes—every culture has them\, and every family carries its own treasured repertoire. This Hanukkah\, we’ll explore them together\, noticing the sparks of light that guide us through the darkness and leaning into the melodies that help us settle into the night. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue;Sensory Room Available \n \nOrganization: Temple Micah \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not
