SUMMARY:First Session of Giving Back Circle with the EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:Join the EDCJCC’s inaugural Giving Back Circle—a giving circle with a twist! Instead of focusing on financial contributions\, this program centers on giving your time through volunteer work and community building. \nLed by volunteer leaders\, the group will select projects that align with the issues they care about most\, creating a meaningful way to give back to the DC community. This program is ideal for people who are excited to help design and shape their own volunteer projects\, and less suited for those who prefer drop-in or pre-arranged opportunities. \nThe first session will be held on Monday\, April 20\, from 6:00-8:00 PM and will include learning\, discussion\, and collaborative planning for the next six months. Together\, the group will choose projects and set a schedule\, with activities taking place on weeknights or weekends. The cohort will meet once a month for six months\, and participants are asked to attend at least 4 of the 6 sessions. \nThis program is open to adults ages 25–40 from any Jewish background. Registration is $25 per person; if cost is a barrier or if you have any additional questions\, please email Mira at msmith@edcjcc.org. During the program\, participants will also have opportunities to donate items or funds to specific projects. \n \n \nOrganization: Edlavitch DCJCC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:18th Annual National Rainbow Seder with GLOE and Partners
DESCRIPTION:Now in its eighteenth year\, the National Rainbow Seder is one of the nation’s largest and longest-running Passover seders for the queer Jewish community and its allies. \nThis year’s theme\, Liberation for All Who Journey: Remembering\, Resisting\, Rebuilding\, invites us to retell the Passover story through a queer lens\, honoring our ancestors’ path to freedom alongside the hard-fought progress of the LGBTQ+ equality movement. Our specially commissioned Haggadah (the Jewish text containing the Passover Story) weaves ritual\, resistance\, and joy into an evening where we can show up fully and celebrate liberation together. \nSeder will be led by Rabbi Atara Cohen and Rabbi Avigayil Halpern\, and will feature keynote speaker Reverend Diego Miguel Sanchez\, Vice President\, Policy and Government Affairs\, PFLAG National. \nThe Edlavitch DCJCC is grateful to our 2026 Rainbow Seder partners: HRC\, Bet Mishpachah\, Adas Israel\, Embassy of Israel\, NJB+ DC\, Nice Jewish Girls\, GatherDC\, Washington Hebrew Congregation\, and Honeymoon Israel.\nCost Range: $54 – $1800 \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: GLOE – LGBTQ Outreach & Engagement \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Book Brunch: Jewish Stories in Our Own Words with the EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:What do a Laotian born refugee\, an Indian culinary creator\, a trans improv artist\, a Jewpanese podcaster\, and a Latinx storyteller have in common? They are all Jewish\, and their unique journeys are part of Hyphen\, a gorgeous comics anthology showcasing extraordinary stories of everyday people. Each story is told in the contributor’s own words and brought to life by international artists\, weaving together ancient traditions\, modern journeys\, and deeply personal experiences. \nThe Jewish people today are more diverse than ever in our history. At the heart of Hyphen is the belief that Jewish identity is not one-size-fits-all. By empowering contributors to tell their own stories\, Hyphen is a powerful celebration of what it means to be Jewish today —amplifying voices that have too often been overlooked. \nJoin us for mimosas\, bagels\, and rich conversation with the book’s creators and two featured storytellers. We’re thrilled to welcome Dubbs Weinblatt\, Eddna Samuel\, Fabrice Sapolsky and Julian Voloj in conversation with Chess Jakobs to share queer\, trans\, Indian\, Algerian\, and Colombian Jewish stories on our stage. \n \n \nOrganization: Edlavitch DCJCC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:MLK Day of Service: Uplifting Incarcerated Voices with Free Minds and the EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:Honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King by spending your day learning and serving. Free Minds supports incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults in the DC Jail\, juvenile detention centers\, the federal prison system\, and reentry programs through classes and workshops focused on literary arts and social-emotional learning. Since its founding\, Free Minds has provided long-term\, ongoing support to over 1\,500 youth and adults. \nVolunteers will hear from Free Minds graduates about their experiences participating in the Free Minds program\, then have the opportunity to read poetry written by current students and provide positive feedback through notes and drawings. While this may seem like a small gesture\, many members share that receiving such encouragement reminds them that people in the community care and gives them strength to persevere. Accessibility: Participants will be seated for the majority of this program. \nAnyone over the age of 11 is welcome to participate – no poetry background necessary! Teens who participate will receive 1.5 SSL hours. \nThis program is free but registration is required to participate. \nIf you have any questions please reach out to Lyssa at ajellenik@edcjcc.org. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Edlavitch DCJCC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Handmade for the Homeless with the EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:Join fellow knitters and crocheters to make handmade goodies for a great cause! Our goal is to contribute as many warm winter items as possible to distribute to individuals experiencing homelessness in the DC area. All levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome. Don’t know how to knit or crochet? We’ll teach you! \nWhat should I bring? Please bring your own needles/crochet hooks. If you are not already working on a warm winter item and are looking for a great project or just starting out\, please bring #8 or #10 knitting needles (circular or straight) or a size H crochet hook. Don’t forget the patterns you’re working on or want to start. \nWhat do you supply? We provide lots of beautiful yarn\, several patterns including hat patterns using #17 needles or a size N crochet hook\, and experienced knitters and crocheters to teach anyone who would like to learn. If you can’t join us in person\, join us in spirit by knitting or crocheting hats\, scarves\, gloves and mittens\, socks or slippers\, and other items to keep people warm during the cold winter months. \nIf you have any questions about this event\, contact Chana at chanaengel@gmail.com. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Edlavitch DCJCC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not
