SUMMARY:Embodied Torah Class Series
DESCRIPTION:How does it feel to be wrapped by a tallis? What happens when you use your hands to draw the light of the Shabbat candles toward you? Or cover your eyes to say the Shema? We will deepen into questions like these in Embodied Torah Study Group\, a facilitated practice lab to explore the somatic\, psychological\, and imaginal dimensions of basic Jewish practices and texts. By taking up simple\, bite-sized pieces of ancient wisdom from davening\, liturgical poetry\, kabbalah\, torah\, and Jewish lifecycle practices\, we will use physical movement and art-making to enliven our embodied connection to Jewish mystical traditions. \nFacilitators: Sessions will be thoughtfully curated by Rabbi Diane Elliot and Zacha Belok \nOpen to all — no prior experience needed. \nABOUT THE FACILITATORS:\nRabbi Diane Elliot (she/her) brings more than forty years’ experience as a performing dance artist\, contact improviser\, and somatic movement therapist and teacher to her rabbinate. In addition to serving on the ALEPH staff\, she is a founding member of the Embodied Jewish Wisdom Network; serves as a founding steward and faculty member of the Taproot Community of Practice; and has published four books of sacred poetry\, most recently Traces (Hakodesh Press\, 2024). SUMMARY:Parashat Bo! With Dr. Melila Hellner Eshed at Chochmat HaLev
DESCRIPTION:Bo! Come feed your second Shabbat soul by gathering together to spend the last few hours of this special Shabbat\, partaking in the kind of social / spiritual / textual study that animates our lineage\, Go Deeper with beloved friend of Chochmat and leading teacher-explorer of our mystical texts\, Dr. Melila Hellner Eshed. \nYour soul will appreciate this opportunity to intimately explore this week’s Torah portion\, Parashat Bo. The Hebrew word bo can be understood to mean “come” as in Moses comes before Pharoah (or well-raised Hebrew-speaking canines “come” to their humans). It can also mean “to enter into\,” as in Moses entering into Pharoah’s presence or our Second Soul ‘enters into” (and then departs ) each of us every Shabbat. \nIn the Zohar\, a foundational work of Kabbalistic literature\, the Rabbis often signal a new discourse with the words: “Rabbi Shim’on opens.” A continually renewed invitation to re-open ourselves to a text by “turning” it\, “seeking from” it\, subjecting it to the collaborative consideration of those sitting next to you. Share in the splendor of Jewish mystical study as Dr. Eshed opens for us this part of the familiar Exodus story and explores the spiritual nature of evil. \nStay for Havdalah with the whole community – the embodied ritual will flow seamlessly from the deep learning. Havdalah\, the Jewish ceremony that marks the end of Shabbat and the start of a new week\, is Hebrew word for “separation”. Separating from the sacred time of Shabbat as we relinquish the “second soul” offered to each of us by The Holy One on Friday night and reorient to the 6 generative days ahead. Braided candle\, spice box\, wine\, blessings\, singing and more.\nCost Range: 0 – 18 \n \n \nOrganization: Chochmat HaLev

SUMMARY:The Queen’s Table: An Evening of Mystical Delight with Chochmat HaLev
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to a Friday evening of ecstasy and enchantment at Chochmat HaLev’s modern take on the Hassidic tisch. Join us as we reimagine the rituals of the Jewish mystics by gathering around a long candlelit table\, sacred teachers illuminating ancient wisdom\, wordless nigun melodies\, libations and delicacies late into the night. \nWe have the rare opportunity to be guided on this journey by two of the world’s leading scholars and teachers of Jewish mysticism: Dr. Melila Hellner Eshed visiting us from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem\, together with Dr. Daniel Matt\, author of the nine-volume annotated work The Zohar: Pritzker Edition\, the core text of Jewish mysticism. Participate in lively conversation facilitated by Chochmat HaLev Spiritual Leader Zvika Krieger and sacred chanting led by Musical Director Lior Tsarfaty as we enter the new Hebrew month of Shevat\, a portal for rebirth and infinite potential. \nAccept the Zohar’s invitation to “make the Shabbat a delight… unto both the body and the soul\, a delight unto the celestial and earthly realms.” Take your seat at our opulent tisch (table) in a fete to the feminine face of the Divine\, the supernal Queen\, who according to the Zohar graces us with Her immanent presence on Friday nights – “crowned over and over by the holy people” through our song\, study\, and spirits. \n \nOrganization: Chochmat HaLev \nLivestream or Virtual: \nAccommodations:
