What people call you: Rachel, or Cantor Rhodes
Congregation: Temple Rodef Shalom
Location: 2100 Westmoreland St, Falls Church, VA 22043
Ordained from: Hebrew Union College
What do you love most about your work? I really love engaging with congregants of all ages. My dynamic and adorable youth choir, Shir Harmony, reminds me that there is so much hope and light in the future of liberal Judaism. Seeing a class of adults learn how to chant from the Torah shows me that we should never stop going out on a limb to learn something new. And our growing group of young professionals in our congregation, called Rodef 2100, never ceases to make me laugh and inspire me. I have an awesome job, what can I say?
How is Judaism valuable in your life? I became a cantor because music is the language of the soul, and when people join together in song and prayer we can achieve great things. I am lucky enough to be a part of a community that loves to sing!
