SUMMARY:Exploring the Blurry Borders of Eastern Europe with JRI-Poland and JGSGW
DESCRIPTION:Zoom meeting\, free for members of JGSGW. Nonmembers may register to attend for a fee of $10. \nThere is an old Jewish joke that “my grandpa” was born in Poland\, went to school in Russia\, became bar mitzvah in Hungary\, married in Austria\, died in the USSR and is buried in Ukraine — but never left town during his life! Europe’s changing borders and empires may make it difficult for you to decide where to look for your family’s records in the Old Country. Understanding what’s in the JRI-Poland database and learning how it might help your own family research is the subject of this lively presentation which will include demonstrations and end with a questions-and-answers session that is usually quite lively. Bring your questions and ask an expert on the JRI-Poland website and database! \nThis one-hour program\, conducted over Zoom at 1:30 pm EDT\, is free for members. This is one of the many activities that is a benefit of JGSGW membership. \nRobinn Magid is the president of JRI-Poland.org and has served as a JRI-Poland volunteer for 31 years. She is the project manager for JRI-Poland’s “Next Generation” website and database and is a popular speaker and writer on Jewish Genealogy topics. Robinn has served as the chair of two landmark international conferences for the IAJGS (International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies) Warsaw (2018) and the first virtual IAJGS conference (2020 during Covid). She is a recipient of the IAJGS Lifetime Achievement Award and of a civic medal from her paternal grandmother’s hometown of Lublin\, Poland.\nCost Range: $0 – $10 \n \nAccommodations: Captioning \n \nOrganization: Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is
