Sefaria, a non-profit organization dedicated to building the future of Torah in an open and participatory way, seeks a full-time Communications Specialist to implement Sefaria’s communications strategy.

Position Overview
The Communications Specialist is a new position created to implement Sefaria’s communications strategy. The individual in this position will produce a majority of outgoing communications, working with all members of the marketing and communications team, as well as members of other teams -- product, engineering, development, and learning. Day-to-day, the Manager will write and/or edit content, publish content, and otherwise support all communications strategies.

On a monthly basis, the Specialist will be responsible for creating and/or editing 20-30 social media posts, 10-20 emails for multiple departments, 5+ blog posts, and content for landing pages. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a remote environment. This is a fast-paced position responsible for keeping multiple projects running smoothly and responding to last-minute requests.

The ideal candidate is a quick and confident writer with prior experience in marketing and/or communications and is familiar with Jewish texts. The Communications Specialist will report directly to the Senior Communications Manager.

In this position you will:
Act as lead content creator for all communications projects from start to finish to ensure all aspects and deliverables are completed on time.
Work as an interdepartmental liaison to gather information, materials, and content for communications projects and ensure project timelines are on track.
Write and edit copy for email communications, social media, blog content, and landing pages.
Concept visual elements for communications and work with external contractors to bring those concepts to life.
Copyedit public-facing content, including content developed by other teams, to ensure a consistent brand voice across the organization.
Maintain and update the Sefaria style guide as necessary.
Support the Marketing and Communications team on paid ad content.
Communicate and coordinate with external vendors and contractors.

Experience, qualifications, and requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, creative writing, marketing, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience
6-10 years of relevant experience, of which at least 5 of those years include experience in copywriting and editing
Formal Jewish learning, either personally or professionally, and substantial knowledge about Jewish texts and foundational knowledge of Jewish culture
Experience writing for broad, general audiences and sufficient Jewish cultural competency to write for multiple audiences
Experience creating content using Canva or other graphic design tools
Ability to follow Sefaria’s brand book and to use the organization’s existing voice
Knowledge of best practices in writing for SEO
Knowledge of best practices for designing and writing content for landing pages
Strong project management skills with the ability to track multiple projects and meet tight and ongoing deadlines
Proficiency in working with the technology in an online work environment including GSuite, Slack, Zoom, Trello (training will be provided, as needed)
Comfort working in a fast-paced and often-changing environment
Some knowledge of Hebrew is preferred, including the ability to identify proper text direction and basic formatting
