Administrative Assistant to the Ritual Department Adas Israel Congregation, a thriving 1700-family synagogue and DC magnet for contemporary Jewish life and spirituality, seeks a highly organized, diligent, and professional administrator to join our exciting team. The position involves the coordination and execution of administrative/logistical work related to synagogue’s ritual and lifecycle functions.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lifecycle Administration (75%) • Support administration related to the B’nai Mitzvah program, including scheduling of dates, communications with families, preparation of materials, and coordinating of programs and events. • Manage tutoring schedule for B’nai Mitzvah students, including their start dates and times, connecting them to various tutors, and supporting families when they request a change in their regular tutoring slot. • Serve as an administrative assistant to our congregation’s cantor, assisting with all scheduling, music-event, and other administrative support needs, including lifecycle coordination. • Support all congregational Bereavement activities, serving as a member of the emergency phone line rotation for occasional bereavement calls, supporting funeral/shiva arrangements and logistics, and coordinating Yahrzeit information, memorial plaques and books. • Maintain ritual department and cemetery records and archives. • Coordinate with Rabbinic Office around other lifecycle events
Programmatic Administration (20%): • Support the clergy, ritual director, and professional staff in preparation for all classes, events, services, and life cycle events as needed. • Assist with weekly Shabbat and ongoing holiday materials. • Provide support with day-to-day administrative operations, mailings, filing, congregational database and online accounting software • Staff meetings, events, service, holidays and other functions as needed. • Copy, scan, and prepare text, sources, and other materials as required. • Other super helpful duties as assigned.
Back Up Front Desk Assistant (5%): • Provide relief when the front desk receptionist and backup is away (lunch, vacation, medical leave, etc.) • Serve as a friendly and helpful “ambassador” and greeter for all who call or visit the congregation • Answer all incoming calls and inquiries, and respond promptly and accordingly • Act as point person for all members, guests and visitors coming through the main lobby
QUALIFICATIONS We’re seeking candidates who excel in logistical/administrative coordination, are pro-active, organized and detail-oriented, and have strong professional communication skills. • Administrative experience, whether in a volunteer or professional capacity • A track record of juggling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and achieving superb results • A demonstrated commitment to making sure the “i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed” and no balls are dropped • Knowledge of conservative Judaism/synagogue life a big plus. This is a full-time position working regular daily office hours, with occasional “on-call” hours on weeknights or weekends.
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000 annually.
