Overview:
Temple Shalom is hiring a 20-hours-weekly Religious School administrative assistant to join our education team on our quest to inspire the hearts and minds of the next generation of the Jewish People through our vibrant Religious School. Temple Shalom is an inclusive, homey, Reform synagogue located where Silver Spring meets Chevy Chase, MD, and our supplementary Religious School serves over 250 students and teachers from our curious babies through to our dedicated and passionate teenagers.

General Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary staff person responsible for answering Religious School calls during school hours. At the start of school, buzz students and families into building. Prepares and maintains the school calendars, manages student and teacher lists, manages food allergies and sensitivities for school-wide programs, & oversees attendance. Communicates with retreat centers, venues, speakers, and special guests on behalf of Temple Shalom in preparation for special programming. Collaborates with teachers, clergy, and other professional staff administratively in advance of retreats, Shabbatonim (Temple sleepovers), and other programming. Create and collaborate on marketing materials for programming. Coordinate with maintenance and office staff for setup needs and repairs. Creates Religious School registration. Collaborate with librarians to support students and teachers in reserving, returning, and picking up library books. Tidy up after programming, managing supplies, managing shed and supply closets. Welcome, schedule tours with, and send information to, prospective families. Supports teachers and students during fire and emergency drills.
Financial Responsibilities:
Order supplies, handle disbursements, collect payments, deposits, and prepare payroll for the Religious School. Collects and manages tzedakah (charity) funds. Handles procurement and ordering of foods. Manages the Religious School Pizza Club & Snack Cart. Manages camp scholarship forms.
Responsibilities Supporting Religious School Faculty
Manages teacher contracts and Terms Sheet; manages staff birthdays, teacher appreciation, and teacher training logistics. Gather class materials, make photocopies, and print class materials for teachers in advance of class. Maintains all supplies in the School Office and supply room, collaborates with Early Learning Center staff on organizing both spaces. Maintains a presence in the School Office during Religious School hours to support teachers, clergy, and students when needed.
Requirements:
Experience in the operation and administration of an office environment. Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Google Drive, willingness to learn and use our management, email, and website systems, and ability to troubleshoot technology. Experience with ShulCloud is a plus. Comfort & experience with children and teens. Thrive on teamwork and collaboration. Ability to do basic math equations involving money (with a calculator!). A people person, comfortable interacting with multiple age groups in a fast-paced environment. Some college and/or a combination of experience and education. A background check will be completed prior to the start of employment. Knowledge of Jewish customs and holidays, and experience at summer camp, are not mandatory, but a plus!

Hours (20 hours, weekly): On-sight during school year: Sundays: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM ; 5:00-8:00 | Tuesdays: 3:00-6:30 | Wednesdays: 3:00-8:30 From home or on-sight: Thursdays or Fridays, 4 hours.
Salary:
$20-$22 / hour, based on experience.
