Engagement Associate

More Information

GW Hillel, located in the heart of our nation’s capital, welcomes students each year who are ready to positively impact our world. Our collaborative staff team works together to help them do so through a Jewish lens, providing the sense of belonging and community to help them navigate life’s challenges..

The GW Hillel Engagement Associate will play a key role in this process. You will inherently understand that this work begins with engagement; you have strong interpersonal skills, always know how to make room at the table for a new face, and are ready to hit campus in order to listen closely to the needs and hopes of our student population. You will use this information to build meaningful relationships and foster strong connections among Jewish students on campus, and with GW Hillel. You will be an incubator for new ideas, using our city as a learning laboratory and using your connections to improve student lives. You will be well-versed in trends and the needs of college students at this moment, and will use this knowledge to best meet student needs.

The Engagement Associate will report to the Senior Jewish Educator and will work closely with the Director of Jewish Student Life and student-facing program team. In collaboration with our team, you will work to reach an increased number of students - helping Jewish students at GW to take pride in, and ownership of, their Jewish identities.

What You’ll Do-
You are first and foremost an engager! You will meet students on campus for coffee, tea, or a snack in order to build authentic relationships and to help connect students to friends, community, and experiences.
You are the transmitter of ideas into action. Using your network of students, you help identify students to take ownership of projects and initiatives, and help them find opportunities of meaning from all corners of GW Hillel.
You are an engager in-person and online, you’d help us maintain a strong and relevant social media presence.
Recruit for and staff immersive experiences, as necessary.
Spend time on campus regularly and on Jewish holidays, offering ways for students to connect with Jewish life; sometimes this will mean bringing students into the doors of GW Hillel and at other times, you will help students build their own Jewish experiences elsewhere on-campus.
Work as a key connector with our student engagement interns, helping to craft their learning, guide their engagement strategy, and support them in their success.
Serve as an active member of the broader student-facing programming team by staffing Shabbat Dinners and other Hillel-wide experiences.

What You’ve Accomplished-
Bachelor's degree required and 0-2 years experience
Experience leading in Jewish communal spaces preferred but not required

What You’ll Bring to the Job-
Passion for connecting with people from different backgrounds with the goal of building authentic and meaningful relationships
Excellent communication and active listening skills
Commitment to Hillel’s pluralistic vision of Jewish life
Ability to thrive in an environment that is fast-paced and multi-faceted - no two days will be the same
Proactive and entrepreneurial approach toward cultivating relationships with under-engaged or not-yet-engaged Jewish students on campus
This role will start in late July/early August 2023

What You’ll Receive-
Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $42,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience.
A comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, Group Supplemental Retirement Annuity (GSRA), pension plan, life insurance, Long Term Disability (LTD), Flexible Spending Plan, generous time off leave policy, and parental leave. Great professional development, mentoring, and skill building opportunities. Dedicated and fun colleagues who want to bring out the best in you.

About GW Hillel-

GW Hillel aims to give students the tools they need to live vibrant, meaningful Jewish lives during their four years of college and beyond. In the past two years, we have opened our new building, crafted a vibrant new Hillel cafe, and continue to create opportunities for students to consider where their Judaism and educational experiences in Washington, DC meet.
