HIAS seeks an Individual Giving Officer, Northeast Region to assist with planning, coordinating and designing strategies for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals in the Northeast who give at the $500-$4,999.00 level. This role will report to the Associate Director, Major Gifts and will join a team of remote colleagues spread over several states. Ideal candidates will be strong self-starters who are motivated to work independently. This individual is responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization. Beyond the Major Gifts team, this role will work closely with a wide variety of internal stakeholders, both within the Development department and outside of it.
Please note, the salary range for this position is $70,000.00-75,000.00 and based in New York, New York.
Manages and takes ownership of a portfolio consisting of several hundred low-level major donors in the Northeast region of the United States.
Conducts a significant number of qualified contacts per month with donors or prospects to strengthen donor relationships for long-term support.
Partners with colleagues in Development Operations, as well as colleagues in the Global Public Affairs division as a whole, to align solicitation strategies with the interests of specific donors or prospects.
Executes small-scale cultivation events—both virtual and in-person—to engage doors and prospects with HIAS.
Travels throughout the Northeast to cultivate donors with in-person meetings and engagements. (Please note that this job responsibility is pending local guidance on COVID safety.)
Oversees timely and meaningful donor acknowledgment and stewardship initiatives.
Maintains detailed records in HIAS’ database.
Maintains ongoing familiarity with refugee issues, Jewish communal philanthropic opportunities and trends.
Assists in other Global Public Affairs projects, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate degree preferred, with 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
Experience in researching and identifying major new funding prospects; progressive experience in successful advancement or related programs.
Comfort with high-net-worth individuals and families.
Ability to synthesize large quantities of information and distill key points to tailor to donors’ interests.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to write clearly to external and internal stakeholders; comfort with speaking to small groups and ability to modulate tone depending on audience; able to listen actively and respond to donor needs.
Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently in a fast-paced work environment and remain flexible in an ever-changing landscape for refugee issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in fundraising principles and methodologies.
Familiarity with the Jewish community and international refugee issues a plus; comfort in representing HIAS to funders and interacting with a diverse base of supporters.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, fundraising databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred) and prospect research tools.
Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability while being a team player.
Willingness to travel throughout the Northeast Region (about 30% time) and ability to attend occasional functions/activities outside of normal work hours, with advanced notice.
