~Teach in our K-7 religious school on Sundays and/or Wednesdays~
The Alvin Browdy Religious School uses a Project-Based Learning approach to encourage students in kindergarten through seventh grade to delve deeply into important topics, to become critical thinkers and active participants within their own Jewish journeys. Leveled Hebrew instruction and regular tefilah give students the tools they need to lead services and gain competency in text study and prayer. Professional development options and planning assistance are readily available.
Hours of operation are Wednesdays 4:15pm-6:15pm and Sundays 9:00am-12:00pm, September through early June. While we prefer teachers who are available on both days, a Sunday-only or Wednesday-only option is also possible. We have open positions in a variety of grades. Rates begin at $36/hour.
~Teach in our 8-12 grade Sunday evening teen program~
Ohr Kodesh Congregation is seeking dynamic Jewish educators for its community-based teen program, Tzohar, for 8th to 12th graders. Tzohar meets October through mid-May, from 5:30pm-7:30pm on Sundays, with an optional 3rd hour of Hebrew instruction from 7:30pm-8:30pm. Rates begin at $45/hr.
Tzohar's curriculum focuses on text based learning, in-depth discussion, and community building. We believe that every student has a unique voice to contribute to the legacy of Jewish tradition. Students will study text from original source material, be challenged to provide thoughtful and modern responses to ancient and contemporary texts. We believe in twenty-first-century modalities of learning, and encourage students to grapple with the world around them through a Jewish lens. Tzohar partners with Hadar's Moot Beit Din program and the MoEd afterschool program.
Positions are available for an 8th/9th grade Cohort Teacher and a 10th/11th grade Cohort Teacher. Both positions include one hour with a cohort class, and a second hour bechirot class. Cohort classes follow a set curriculum. Bechirot classes are subject to change according to umbrella themes for each trimester.
Teacher Responsibilities for both programs include:
• Arriving at least 15 minutes before the start of the program to set up learning space, prepare materials, and greet students.
• Preparing and submit weekly lesson plans following the outlined curriculum.
• Communicating effectively with supervisor, students, and parents when needed, and providing periodic feedback on student experiences.
• Attending all staff meetings and professional development sessions, as well as special services and/or parent conferences as needed (a small stipend is available for external professional development opportunities)
Both programs will be fully in person, and will follow health guidelines set by Ohr Kodesh's executive board and health committee.
Please send a resume and cover letter to Wilhelmina Gottschalk, Interim Director of Education, email@example.com, and specify to which program you are applying.
