About Us: The New Synagogue Project (“NSP”) is a membership synagogue located in Petworth, D.C. Our mission is to build a spiritually vibrant, radically inclusive Jewish community that reflects our vision for a world of justice, equity, and liberation. Our community is being created by and for families with kids, couples and single people, queer and trans people, interfaith families, Jews of color and white Jews, Jews from many religious and secular backgrounds, and anyone interested in exploring and experiencing Jewish life. As the Administrative Associate, you will work closely with the Rabbi to drive the administrative functions of NSP, to ensure NSP continues to offer high quality programs with smooth operations to support our 350+ members. About You (You have most of the following traits): You are passionate about furthering the mission of NSP, as a radically inclusive, social justice-oriented synagogue. You have a knack for detail, data, and logistics, and being detail-oriented is one of your strongest qualities. You thrive working independently and are able to carry projects forward with minimal supervision. You’re eager to take initiative and excited about the flexibility that this position offers. You’re familiar with G Suite (GoogleDrive, Gmail, etc.) and have experience with a database tool. You’re comfortable learning and teaching yourself new technology platforms, such as MailChimp or Breeze, our database tool. You have excellent communication skills and are able to communicate clearly and transparently with both individuals and groups through email. You go out of your way to foster connections between people and genuinely want to help people solve problems and work collaboratively. You have experience, either in paid or volunteer positions, with administration, logistics, and planning. You are familiar with Jewish religious life and culture - or interested in learning. About the Role: This is a part-time role requiring 20 hours/week, reporting to the Rabbi. The position is located in Washington, D.C. It will begin as a remote position until it is safe to gather and NSP has moved into a long term lease with office space. The position will have a flexible schedule, with at least half of the hours to be between 9am-5pm. Will require occasional weekend and evening hours, approximately 8-10 times a year, for special events and Jewish holiday programming. This role requires the use of a cell phone and laptop, as well as access to the internet. If needed, NSP can provide a laptop. The primary areas of focus are: Supporting daily operations and logistics, including: New membership processing and membership renewals; Checking the PO Box (located in Petworth, D.C.) and processing mail and checks; Fundraising logistics support and keeping membership dues and donation information current; Ordering and managing supplies and space coordination; and Processing vendor payments and member reimbursements. Managing NSP’s technology platforms, including: Keeping our Breeze membership database up-to-date and supporting volunteers’ use of Breeze; Processing online donations; and Managing NSP’s G Suite programs, including NSP’s Google Calendar and events listings. Coordinating communications, including: Responding to member inquiries via email; Finalizing and coordinating weekly events communications; and Keeping MailChimp email lists up-to-date. Assisting in the administration of educational programming, justice programming, and special events, including: Administrative and logistical support for adult b’nai mitzvah class, conversation program, and Jewish education programs; Administrative and logistical support for volunteers coordinating special events, such as Purim, Hanukkah, and High Holidays; Administrative support for giving circle, Justice Team teach-ins, and other justice programs; and Administrative support for kids education program and events. Assisting the Rabbi with any special projects, including providing creative input to continually improve NSP’s systems and policies as we continue to grow. Pay and Benefits: The position pays $24/hr and is a part-time role requiring approximately 20 hours/week. 401k plan with a 3% employer contribution that vests immediately.
