SUMMARY:Shavuot Dinner & Learning with Am Kolel
DESCRIPTION:Join Am Kolel for a meaningful Shavuot evening of learning\, music\, and community. We will share in a catered dairy dinner\, continue with communal music\, and then learn with Rabbi Miriam\, Reb David\, Cherie Brown\, and Danny Siegel. \n6:00–7:30 pm — Welcome and Dinner\n7:30–7:50 pm — Music\n8:00-9:00 pm — Session I with Danny Siegel and Cherie Brown\n9:05–10:05 pm — Session II with Cherie Brown\, Reb David\, and Rabbi Miriam\n10:05–10:15 pm — Closing \nTools for Effective Dialogue: Learn how to handle difficult people and stay in dialogue! This will be a hands-on\, skill-based session. Learn how to have difficult conversations\, listen when it’s hard\, and stay allies with someone you disagree with. \nRuth & Intermarriage: Why do we read the book of Ruth on Shavuot? Ruth was a Moabite princess who joined the Jewish people and is the great-great-grandmother of King David. This raises questions about intermarriage\, conversion\, and belonging. \nAccess to the Shekhinah: “There are 36 who get to see the face of the Shekhinah in every generation.” Together\, we will ask: how human beings encounter the Divine Presence\, who can access it\, and whether that experience is limited or open to more of us. \nRevelation After Sinai: We will explore how Jewish thinkers across history have understood the meaning of revelation beyond the moment at Mount Sinai. Together\, we’ll ask a central question: if revelation continues after Sinai\, what counts as revelation today? \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: Am Kolel \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Sips and Shavuot: Religion\, Mental Health\, and Healing with Abrahamic House
DESCRIPTION:Shavuot\, a Jewish holiday celebrated seven weeks after Passover\, commemorates the moment the Israelites stood at the base of Mount Sinai to receive the Torah Historically\, it also celebrated the Yom HaBikkurim\, or the day of “first fruits\,” of the spring harvest\, a time of physical and spiritual abundance. \nIn Jewish tradition\, we honor the revealing of the Torah through Tikkun Leil Shavuot\, a custom of staying up through the night to study. We dive deep into complex texts\, share dairy-rich treats like cheesecake\, and lean into the idea that learning is a lifelong journey. \nThis Shavuot\, we are moving beyond the traditional text study and exploring an important kind of revelation: our own minds. Just as the Torah provides a blueprint for a just society\, understanding our mental health and well-being provides the blueprint for a resilient life. Join us as we welcome Georgetown Professor Elizabeth Antus to bridge the gap between faith\, mental health\, healing\, and suffering\, with a lecture titled\, “The Spiritual Dimensions of Mental Health Suffering & Healing: Christian and Buddhist Perspectives.” \nThis event will take place on Thursday\, May 21\, at 7:00PM. \nLocation details will be provided via email within 72 hours of the event. \nViews expressed by guest lecturers are their own and do not necessarily reflect the official position or endorsements of Abrahamic House. \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: Abrahamic House \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not
