SUMMARY:"Pass the Trauma\, Please" with Todd Diamond with the Pozez JCC
DESCRIPTION:In commemoration of Yom HaShoah\, Holocaust Remembrance Day \nIn his forward of the memoir\, former ADL national director\, Abe Foxman\, says “Pass the Trauma\, Please” is an original\, provocative\, and even a bit irreverent narrative of a second-generation Holocaust survivor. Diamond writes an atypical viewpoint that demonstrates how trauma affects future generations of descendants (and others). His premise is derived from a scientific NYC hospital paper that found genetic changes in children of Holocaust survivors who survived the horrors of the Shoah. Diamond’s memoir uniquely links this past tragedy to present day (post-October 7th) global antisemitism. \nJoin us for an unusual and distinctive perspective on the Holocaust and trauma that weaves loss\, love\, laughter and legacy together. A book sale and signing will follow the event. \nFee: Complimentary. Registration required. Donations to JCC Adult Programming are appreciated. \n \n \nOrganization: Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Neshome Lider: Songs of Resilience from the Holocaust with Adas Israel Cong.
DESCRIPTION:This Yom HaShoah\, join us for an evening of music\, memory\, and moral courage\, featuring Neshome Lider: Songs of Resilience from the Holocaust and a Garden of the Righteous commemoration honoring Geertruida “Truus” Wijsmuller. \nNeshome Lider is a moving musical journey of Yiddish songs written during the Holocaust\, woven with story and reflection. Featuring Zalmen Mlotek\, Rabbi Avram Mlotek\, and Cantor Arianne Brown\, the program reveals how song became an act of spiritual resistance\, remembrance\, and hope. \nWe will also honor Truus Wijsmuller\, whose courageous leadership in the Kindertransport helped rescue approximately 10\,000 Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Europe. Joining us will be Isabel Bauer-Langsdorf\, one of the children she saved\, along with her daughter Julie Langsdorf\, offering living testimony to the power of moral courage. \nAn evening where music and memory meet in sacred tribute. Supported by the Jonah and Rita Schiffres Yiddish Fund. \n \n \nOrganization: Adas Israel Congregation \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Aziz Abu Sarah and Maoz Inon In Conversation w/ Rabbi Aaron Potek with Sixth & I
DESCRIPTION:Palestinian Aziz Abu Sarah and Israeli Maoz Inon forged a bond when the world expected them to be enemies. Aziz\, a Palestinian\, lost his brother after he was arrested and tortured by the IDF. Maoz\, an Israeli\, lost both of his parents to Hamas militants on October 7. In the wake of tragedy\, the lifelong peace activists chose to fight for peace because everything other than peace has failed. \nIn The Future Is Peace: A Shared Journey Across the Holy Land\, Sarah and Inon walk the physical and emotional landscapes of their intertwined histories – from the ruins of Gaza’s border communities to Jerusalem’s winding stone alleyways\, from the hills of Galilee to Bethlehem’s concrete separation barrier. Facing competing narratives\, they explore how compassion and unity can pull humanity back from the precipice of blind hatred. \nThe Future Is Peace challenges the belief that more violence can ever bring security. Their story is proof of the possibility for reconciliation to heal the wounds of revenge and for partnerships to change a destiny of war. Sarah and Inon are Co-CEOs of InterAct International\, a nonprofit dedicated to Middle East Peace. They’ll be in conversation with Sixth & I’s Senior Rabbi\, Aaron Potek.   \nA book signing will follow the event for those who would like their name added to their book. \nThank you to our promotional partner\, New Jewish Narrative\nCost Range: $12 – $125 \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue;ASL Interpretation \n \nOrganization: New Jewish Narrative \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is

SUMMARY:Eilu v'Eilu: An Open Reflection Project with Am Kolel
DESCRIPTION:This gentle\, conversation-based program creates space for us to explore some of the most meaningful\, complicated\, and personal aspects of Jewish life. \nMany of the topics we’ll be discussing—God\, prayer\, Israel\, identity\, mortality\, and more—can be challenging to talk about\, even with people we know well. Eilu v’Eilu offers a warm\, guided space to dive deeply into our own thoughts and beliefs\, to practice articulating ideas that may feel tender or evolving\, and to listen generously to the experiences of others. \nEach session stands on its own\, and you’re warmly invited to join for as many—or as few—as you’d like. \nThese Thursday-evening Zoom gatherings (7:00–8:30 pm) are designed for curiosity\, honesty\, and genuine connection. There are no “right answers” to arrive at—just opportunities to reflect\, ask\, listen\, and share. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Am Kolel \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is

SUMMARY:First Session of Giving Back Circle with the EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:Join the EDCJCC’s inaugural Giving Back Circle—a giving circle with a twist! Instead of focusing on financial contributions\, this program centers on giving your time through volunteer work and community building. \nLed by volunteer leaders\, the group will select projects that align with the issues they care about most\, creating a meaningful way to give back to the DC community. This program is ideal for people who are excited to help design and shape their own volunteer projects\, and less suited for those who prefer drop-in or pre-arranged opportunities. \nThe first session will be held on Monday\, April 20\, from 6:00-8:00 PM and will include learning\, discussion\, and collaborative planning for the next six months. Together\, the group will choose projects and set a schedule\, with activities taking place on weeknights or weekends. The cohort will meet once a month for six months\, and participants are asked to attend at least 4 of the 6 sessions. \nThis program is open to adults ages 25–40 from any Jewish background. Registration is $25 per person; if cost is a barrier or if you have any additional questions\, please email Mira at msmith@edcjcc.org. During the program\, participants will also have opportunities to donate items or funds to specific projects. \n \n \nOrganization: Edlavitch DCJCC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not
