SUMMARY:Jewish Welcome Workshop Begins with Sixth & I
DESCRIPTION:This 38-week course is designed for those interested in learning more about Judaism and/or converting. Participants learn both within the classroom and through immersion in the larger Sixth & I and DC community. This class is intended for people who are not Jewish\, or have recently discovered Jewish ancestry. At the end of the program\, non-Jewish participants will be prepared to convert to Judaism or to live as a Ger Toshav (“fellow traveler”) with the Jewish people. \nThe annual course starts September 1 and runs through June 10\, typically on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. This class includes a mix of lectures\, group activities\, text studies\, and holiday celebrations. No Hebrew language knowledge is required. Those wishing to convert will meet with one of the rabbis individually during the year. The rabbi—in consultation with you—determines when you are ready for the actual conversion. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Sixth & I \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

DESCRIPTION:Israel’s Next Election: The Issues\, The Forces\, The Future\nTuesday\, September 1 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm\nIsrael’s next election has the potential to be a defining moment in the country’s history. SUMMARY:Elul Beit Midrash with Hadar DC\, DC Minyan\, and EDCJCC
DESCRIPTION:I Will Be What I Will Be: Teshuva\, the New Year\, and Becoming Ourselves \nGod famously reveals Godself to Moshe by the name “ahyeh asher ahyeh\,” meaning I will be what I will be. What does this name of God teach us about God and what might it teach us about our own capacity for change and becoming? \nIn this special Elul Beit Midrash\, we’ll explore Jewish teachings from Torah to Midrash to Hasidut on teshuva\, our capacity to change and the necessity and challenge of beginning again. This session will include the opportunity to learn all together as well as time spent in havruta (paired learning). \nThis event is co sponsored by DC Minyan and EDCJCC. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Hadar DC \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Screening of AFTER LIFE with JxJ
DESCRIPTION:If you could choose only one memory to keep for eternity\, what would it be? The profound question is approached with beguiling simplicity and sensitivity in Hirokazu Kore-eda’s revelatory international breakthrough film. \nThe recently deceased find themselves in a limbo realm where they must select a single cherished moment from life to be recreated on film to take into the next world. Shaped through hundreds of real interviews with Japanese citizens\, the film explores how we create meaning and form identity from the succession of fleeting moments that define our experience. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: JxJ DC Jewish Film and Music \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Remember & Return: Sarah\, Hannah & the Work of Becoming with the Den Collective
DESCRIPTION:On the first day of Rosh Hashanah\, we encounter two strikingly similar stories: Sarah and Hannah\, two women who move through longing and uncertainty before each is “remembered” by God and becomes a mother. Why do our tradition and our liturgy place these stories at the threshold of a new year? \nJoin Rabbi Anna Wolfe\, the Den’s Community Rabbi\, for an intimate evening of Jewish learning and conversation exploring Sarah and Hannah’s stories as a lens into the deeper work of teshuvah. Together\, we’ll consider Rosh Hashanah as a moment not only of return\, but of creation and re-creation: an invitation to nurture what is emerging within us\, release what has kept us stuck\, and imagine who we are still becoming. \nNo previous text study or Jewish learning experience is needed. Bring your questions\, your curiosity\, and whatever this season is stirring in you. \nThis gathering will take place in Northwest DC. The specific location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline. Advance registration is required. \nSign Up by Sep 4 \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: The Den Collective \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not
