SUMMARY:May Day with Jews United for Justice
DESCRIPTION:Join JUFJers from across the region for a day of action and solidarity. The Trump regime and its billionaire allies are gutting union jobs in our region. They are hunting and killing people in the streets\, stripping away our rights\, overturning our laws\, desecrating our public lands\, and working overtime to entrench their own power. Now\, our elections are on the horizon. If we don’t take the reins this regime will move their intimidation from the streets to the polls. It’s time to make it clear we won’t accept anything less than elections that are free and fair\, and results that are respected. \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: Jews United for Justice \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Authority in Judaism with the Den Collective
DESCRIPTION:In this class\, join us to explore the evolution of authority in Judaism: its enduring centers\, the critiques that have shaped its contours\, and the occasions when it speaks with binding force. We will trace a journey from the absolute rule of biblical kings to the intellectual ‘republic’ of the rabbis\, examining how Jewish tradition built a system where no leader is above the law. By uncovering the Jewish voice of dissent\, from ancient prophets to Talmudic sages\, we will see how our tradition dismantled the concept of the absolute autocrat in favor of a community governed by law and debate. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. This gathering will take place in Silver Spring\, MD. Specific meet-up location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline. \nSign Up by Apr. 30 \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: The Den Collective \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Knead to Know: Baking Challah in a Time of Uncertainty with the Den Collective
DESCRIPTION:The world can feel unstable right now\, bursting with disruptions to established systems and leaving us constantly wondering what even the next few weeks will bring. In the midst of this uncertainty\, baking a weekly (or occasional) challah can foster a sense of stability and a connection to something real. \nBut what happens when your challah recipe itself is open to interpretation? \nCome join us to learn how to make challah dough (from scratch)\, read ancient and modern texts\, and discuss how to adjust to situations where the instructions aren’t clear. \nYou’ll leave with dough that will rise overnight in the fridge\, that you can braid on your own on Thursday or join the group for an optional Zoom-based braiding session. Ingredients will be provided. \nNo experience necessary. Everyone is welcome. Ingredients will be provided. This gathering will take place in Northwest DC. Specific meet-up location and additional details will be shared with registrants after the registration deadline. \nSign up by May 1 \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: The Den Collective \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:An Evening with Noa Tishby with Washington Hebrew Congregation
DESCRIPTION:Noa Tishby is a two-time New York Times best-selling author and Israel’s former Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism and Delegitimization. Washington Hebrew Congregation is proud to welcome her for this special conversation. \nTishby will engage in a wide-ranging and deeply personal conversation that weaves together Israeli history\, Zionism\, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with an unflinching look at how antisemitism shows up today — in media\, pop culture\, politics\, and online spaces. Drawing on her experience in Hollywood and global media\, she’ll unpack how narratives about Israel spread\, why complex realities are often flattened into slogans\, and how misinformation gains traction. Tishby will also reflect on Jewish identity beyond Israel\, generational shifts within the Jewish community\, and the tensions between cultural connection and politics. Throughout\, she’ll share practical insights on advocacy — how to speak up in polarized environments\, handle backlash and online hate\, and navigate visibility\, criticism\, and leadership as a woman in male-dominated industries.\nCost Range: $18 – $173 \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue;Sensory Room Available \n \nOrganization: Washington Hebrew Congregation \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Eilu v'Eilu: An Open Reflection Project with Am Kolel
DESCRIPTION:This gentle\, conversation-based program creates space for us to explore some of the most meaningful\, complicated\, and personal aspects of Jewish life. \nMany of the topics we’ll be discussing—God\, prayer\, Israel\, identity\, mortality\, and more—can be challenging to talk about\, even with people we know well. Eilu v’Eilu offers a warm\, guided space to dive deeply into our own thoughts and beliefs\, to practice articulating ideas that may feel tender or evolving\, and to listen generously to the experiences of others. \nEach session stands on its own\, and you’re warmly invited to join for as many—or as few—as you’d like. \nThese Thursday-evening Zoom gatherings (7:00–8:30 pm) are designed for curiosity\, honesty\, and genuine connection. There are no “right answers” to arrive at—just opportunities to reflect\, ask\, listen\, and share. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Am Kolel \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is
