SUMMARY:Workshop on Grief\, Mourning\, and Healing with the New Synagogue Project
DESCRIPTION:Step into the High Holidays with intention. The Jewish month of Elul invites us to slow down and turn inward. This allows us to gently open ourselves to an emotion we often avoid: grief. We are given the spiritual space to sit with grief to experience healthy mourning and comfort. \n___ September 9 Workshop One will dive into resources to explore the sacred tasks of caring for mourners and end-of-life journeys. The workshop focuses on practical information while giving opportunities to share experiences and feelings of grief in a supportive and safe environment. \n__ September 16 Workshop Two will utilize the healing and creative process of Huichol yarn art\, accessible to all skill levels\, to process grief in a nonverbal way. There will also be small group conversations on mourning and healing as people work on their art. \nChildcare and a light dinner are provided with prior registration. Attend one or both sessions–each stands on its own while building on shared themes.

SUMMARY:Opposite Day Shabbat with Moishe House Bethesda
DESCRIPTION:If you are reading this and it is not Opposite Day\, then we are definitely having Opposite Day Shabbat. But if you are reading this on Opposite Day\, then it’s actually Not Opposite Day ShabbatÉ except that would technically mean you’re reading it on Not Opposite Day\, which makes it Opposite Day Shabbat again. __ Either way\, prepare yourself for the most confusingly fun Shabbat you’ve ever attended. We’ll be flipping everything upside down–dessert before dinner\, breakfast at night\, and Shabbat activities in reverse order. Themed outfits are highly encouraged\, so feel free to wear your pants as shirts\, your shirts as pants\, or anything else that makes no sense. Come ready for a topsy-turvy night where nothing makes sense and everything is exactly the opposite! \nPlease sign up on Partiful and on the Onetable link provided. Even if you are a ‘maybe’\, please sign up on Onetable because they give us more money if we get more signups.

SUMMARY:Selichot with Am Kolel
DESCRIPTION:Deep dive into vidui (the confessional prayer)\, personal reflections\n—\nElul – the Hebrew month before Rosh HaShanah – is a time for spiritual preparation. We are meant to begin taking an account of our souls\, thinking about the moments we missed the mark\, and how we can do better in the coming year. This year\, we are offering space to start doing this work together. We will discuss themes of the High Holidays\, explore the theological implications of the prayers\, and start our own reflections. It will all culminate on Selichot\, when we will take a look at the confessional prayers as a community. We hope you will join us.\n—\nAm Kolel is a welcoming and diverse Jewish Renewal community located in Montgomery County\, Maryland and serving the Greater Washington\, D.C. metro area. Am Kolel is devoted to the revitalization of the Jewish heritage and the Jewish community\, seeking to discover and rediscover a Judaism that is spiritually and socially meaningful.
