SUMMARY:First Meeting of Tuesday / Thursday Community Circle with IfNotNow
DESCRIPTION:IfNotNow is excited to invite you to participate in our Community Circles Program. \nWhat are Community Circles? In a painful and uncertain moment — amid the devastation in Gaza and rising authoritarianism at home — Community Circles offer a small\, supportive space for Jews to come together. Community Circles are small groups of 6-8 people who will gather for five sessions this spring and summer. Through relationships and learning\, we’ll deepen our understanding of how to move forward with integrity\, courage\, and care. \nEach Community Circle will be led by 1-2 facilitators\, supported by IfNotNow. Through learning and honest discussion\, we will:\n– Session 1 (5/12): Share our own stories and build community and relationships around shared experiences\, as well as difference\n– Session 2 (5/26): Reflect on antisemitism and inherited trauma\n– Session 3 (6/11): Learn about anti-Palestinian racism and explore our own biases\n– Session 4 (6/25): Engage with Palestinian narratives and histories\n– Session 5 (7/7): Explore what we can do as Jews to fight for a better and more equitable future \nWe intend to create an open and welcoming space grounded in care and mutual respect. We will focus on challenging ourselves\, listening deeply to one another\, and strengthening our commitment to justice and human rights. \nThere are two different options for Circles that you can join in Washington DC\, each meeting on different dates and times. \n \nAccommodations: None \n \nOrganization: If Not Now \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Application Deadline for Spring/Summer Cohorts with Stacy's Social Circles
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to officially share the newest initiative this spring/summer through Stacy’s Social Circles: curated Social Circle Cohorts designed to help Jewish young adults in their 20s/30s/40s make meaningful friendships\, connections\, and community in the DC area. \nHOW ARE SOCIAL CIRCLES DIFFERENT?? \n*Intentional Community of others the same age and life stage that will meet every week for 7 weeks as seeing the same people often will encourage forming lasting relationships. \n*Curated itineraries and meaningful conversation when you meet where you can find others that share the same interests\, explore a new skill or DC venue \n*Groups will be formed based on personality and activities YOU like from outdoors to foodies to games to festivals and more \n*Small groups of 6-8 \n*I have the time to curate and do what I enjoy the most MATCH & CONNECT others thoughtfully – no large groups of 30 or wondering if/when others will show up that match your vibe \nReady to meet your new friend group or maybe even someone to date?\n* You can sign up solo\, with a partner\, or friend \nLEARN MORE AND APPLY HERE BY MAY 15:\nhttps://forms.gle/gGFwL2zXcJE7tMqU6\n*Only a limited number of spots are still open for our first set of cohorts\n______________________________________________________________\nAlso if we have not met\, hi\, I’m Stacy. 👋 and would love to get to know you and help get you connected to the community….feel free to reach out.\nAnd if we already know each other — thank you for showing up and for the support over the years 💛 \nI genuinely LOVE building community.\nFor the past 14 years\, I have poured (more than many LARGE glasses of Manischewitz) into creating spaces where Jewish 20s\, 30s\, and 40s could feel welcomed\, connected\, and seen — from founding NOVA Tribe Series to creating Shabbat Clusters 2.0 and Interest Tribes\, and personally matching thousands of people into intentional small-group experiences. \nFun fact: over the years\, 14+ couples have met through communities\, social circles\, and connections I helped create — and even more meaningful friendships have formed. Nothing makes me happier than introducing people who end up becoming important parts of each other’s lives. \nWhat makes Stacy’s Social Circles different is that I deeply believe community should feel intentional\, personal\, and warm. I want people to walk into a room and not feel alone. I want people to be introduced to others they’d genuinely click with. I want people to feel like someone actually thought about where they belong. \nFeel free to email me at Stacy.is.social@gmail.com to get event updates\, or come join one of the upcoming cohorts and events this summer including around interests like mahjong\, singles who love dogs\, shabbat dinners and more. \nFollow the new instagram that will be launching soon at @stacys_social_circles \n \nAccommodations: Other \nOther Accommodations – Application Please List Needs \nOrganization: Stacy’s Social Circles \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Celebrating Songs of Social Consciousness with Lox & Vodka and DC Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Explore the history behind iconic songs that fueled movements for civil rights\, peace and equality. \nFrom folk anthems to protest ballads\, hear how artists around the Jewish world used their voices and lyrics to spark change and empower communities with messages that live forever. \nCaron Dale and musicians performingLOX & VODKA is the Washington based\, widely acclaimed klezmer-Jewish band offering an enchanting\, entertaining and emotionally enriching ethnic experience. LOX & VODKA performs lively and spirit filled music where audiences can expect to be active participants\, learning songs in foreign languages and clapping to Klezmer rhythms. Their hora (circle dance) is always action-packed and\, when they teach an audience full of enthusiastic listeners to folk dance\, the atmosphere is electric! \nHumor is an essential element in their concerts. From joy and laughter to pulling on the audience’s heartstrings and collective emotional energy\, there is a story to be told and they tell it in a way no other band does! \nKlezmer music\, which the band defines as Jewish soul music\, has been in existence since the Middle Ages when klezmorim (itinerant musicians) would travel from shtetl (village) to shtetl to play for Jewish weddings and other celebrations. As they traveled\, the musicians adopted a wide range of musical idioms. In turn-of-the-century America\, the klezmorim quickly mastered new instruments and styles. Today we have seen a revival of this spiritually endowed musical form. LOX & VODKA is proud to be part of this inspiring renaissance. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: DC Public Library \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

The database contains resources for over 150 countries and regions\, as well as more that 50 topics including towns/shtetl\, metric\, tax\, voter and revision lists\, censuses\, police files\, conscription\, military records\, cemeteries\, etc. \nThis one-hour program\, conducted over Zoom at 1:30 PM Eastern Time\, is free for members. His former career served him well for genealogical research. Always having had an interest in the origins of his family in what is now Ukraine\, Belarus\, England\, Sweden\, Scandinavia and Hungary\, he began his search over a decade ago for the facts behind family lore. His family tree now includes more than 7000 sourced individuals and multiple family lines. He learned the towns from which his grandparents emigrated\, discovered that his paternal grandparents had siblings\, found their descendants\, found his paternal great grandfather may have had at least three wives\, and developed the family lines of the machatunim. He has made numerous genealogy presentations and is a member of or subscribes to several genealogy organizations and Facebook groups.
