SUMMARY:Alternative Yom Kippur Lunchtime Gathering with GatherDC
DESCRIPTION:There are many who cannot fast on Yom Kippur. This will be a space for those who find it meaningful and helpful to be with other people who also do not fast and engage in a Jewish conversation about what it means to honor the act of tending to one’s body and spirit on this holy day.\nPlease note: food and drinks will not be provided. Everyone has their own nutritional needs\, so we ask that you bring what you would feel most comfortable eating or drinking to sustain yourself. Also\, we will not require anyone to share why they are not fasting.\nYou do not need to join our morning experience to participate.

SUMMARY:Reflections and Candle Decorating on Yom Kippur with Abrahamic House
DESCRIPTION:Before we gather at tables across the DMV to break the fast\, we invite you to join us for a meaningful time of reflection and creativity. Yom Kippur is a day for looking inward\, acknowledging where we have fallen short\, and imagining how we might return to our best selves in the year ahead. Together\, we will take a quiet moment to reflect on those we have wronged\, the forgiveness we seek\, and the ways we hope to move forward with compassion\, strength\, and purpose. \nAs part of this experience\, we will also decorate candles – a symbol of light\, renewal\, and hope. This event is open to all who may be observing Yom Kippur or can sneak out on a work day 🙂 \nThis event will take place on October 2nd from 3-5PM.

SUMMARY:Neilah with Rabbi Aaron with Sixth & I
DESCRIPTION:There’s a beautiful line in a recent New York Times movie review of The Worst Person in the World\, named one of the best movies of the 21st century: ÒA life lived robustly is bound to include some detours.’ \nSometimes\, we choose detours voluntarily while other times\, detours are forced upon us. Either way\, life rarely turns out the way we hoped or imagined. As the famous Yiddish phrase goes: Mann Tracht un Gott Lacht. ÒMan plans\, God laughs.’ \nIt’s hard to believe God is laughing at the way things have been going in our country lately. Some detours are one-way streets. ÒThat which has been twisted cannot be fixed’ (Ecclesiastes 1:15). Have things become hopelessly broken\, beyond repair? Is it too late to course correct? \nWhat is funny is that we continue to try to predict where this all leads. Whether we’re hopeful or hopeless\, many of us try to anticipate a future that hasn’t yet come to pass. \nThe High Holidays are a time of heightened anticipation. A new year brings new possibilitie
