SUMMARY:Havdalah Yoga with 2239
DESCRIPTION:oin us for a beautifully blended class of yoga and Judaism! \nJoin 2239 as we set intentions for the new year during an inspiring and relaxing yoga practice. After class\, catch up with old friends or meet your new besties as we enjoy light refreshments and start the new week together with joy. \nClass is open to everyone of all levels and will be taught by WHC’s amazing Stephanie Tankel. \nStephanie became a certified yoga and meditation instructor in 2016. She loves meshing the ancient traditions of Judaism and yoga\, believing they have far more in common than most see on the surface. Her “day job” is Director of Lifelong Learning at WHC. When not practicing yoga or work\, Stephanie loves walking anywhere\, binging shows\, or accidentally spending too much time sucked into the vortex of social media (strong preference for nature/animal videos)! She lives with her husband\, a rescued mutt\, and their three kids in NW DC. \nExpect a beautifully blended class of yoga + Judaism. Can’t wait to see you there! \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: 2239 \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Jewish Teachings on Death and Dying with Bet Mishpachah
DESCRIPTION:Join Rabbi Jake Singer-Beilin of Bet Mishpachah for a four-part series on Jewish resources and views on death and dying. Each class is a free-standing event. Join us for one or all. \nClass 2 — Illness\, Care\, and Final Moments (In person and on Zoom\, Saturday October 24th\, following the Shabbat service and Kiddush lunch\, at 12:30 pm) \nAs illness progresses and the end of life draws near\, Jewish tradition offers profound guidance on how to care for the body and soul. This class examines Jewish perspectives on hospice and palliative care\, the value placed on aging in place and maintaining dignity (kavod ha-briyot) throughout decline\, and the customs surrounding a person’s final moments\, including the Vidui (deathbed confession) and the presence of loved ones at the bedside. We’ll also explore the vital role of pastoral care and chaplaincy in walking alongside patients and families\, and how Jewish law balances the preservation of life with allowing a natural death.\nCost Range: $0 – $10 \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue;Post-Event Recording \n \nOrganization: Bet Mishpachah \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is

SUMMARY:Certificate Program Begins: American-Israeli Relationship w/ Hudson Institute
DESCRIPTION:Our policy certificate programs aim to give participants practical knowledge of key policy areas. Over four days in Washington\, candidates engage with the theory and practice of politics and wrestle with the complexity of contemporary policy issues.\nRecent trends have made many Americans doubt the contributions of the Jewish faith\, people\, and homeland to liberal democracy\, as well as the importance of a strong American-Israeli alliance to our national security. This program asks whether support for Israel is essential to our national security and liberal democracy more broadly. Seminars take up the Hebrew Bible\, American history\, and IR theory. Finally\, a review of the rationale for Operation Epic Fury is followed by an exercise simulating further crisis in the Middle East. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: Hudson Institute Political Studies \n \nLivestream or Virtual: No\, it’s not

SUMMARY:Hidden Treasures of Chagall in Washington D.C. with GW University
DESCRIPTION:Representing the culmination of nearly a year of research by more than 20 GW students and alumni\, this symposium celebrates the launch of an online exhibition dedicated to the print works of Marc Chagall in the GW Collection. Although his achievements as an etcher are often eclipsed by his renowned paintings\, stained glass\, and monumental commissions\, graphic art lies at the heart of his artistic practice. This online exhibition brings together 27 etchings from the GW Collection\, 14 of which are from Nikolai Gogol’s Dead Souls\, and a unique silk scarf held by the George Washington University Museum The Textile Museum. \nBeyond the works in the GW Collection\, Washington is home to numerous Chagall works that remain largely “hidden”—either because they are not on public view\, are difficult to access\, or have received little scholarly attention. Prints\, drawings\, pastels\, and watercolors\, for example\, are inherently fragile and therefore exhibited infrequently. Other works\, such as the silk scarf in the Textile Museum and the exceptional bon à tirer impressions in the GW Collection\, remain little known to scholars\, while works like the Orpheus mosaic in the NGA Sculpture Garden\, though well documented\, are often overlooked by visitors. The proceedings from this symposium seek to bring these hidden treasures into greater public and scholarly awareness while encouraging new ways of engaging with Chagall’s art. Chagall not only engaged in the visual arts across various media\, but he also expressed his inner world in every art form he created. \n \nAccommodations: ADA Accessible Venue \n \nOrganization: George Washington University \n \nLivestream or Virtual: Yes\, it is
