He discusses how a musician can discover untold family stories and transform them into song\, turn oral history into living art and preserve memory through music. The talk features excerpts from his album Past Lives\, in which his real family cassette tape interview recordings become part of the songs \nThis one-hour program\, conducted over Zoom at 1:30 pm EDT\, is free for members. This is one of the many activities that is a benefit of JGSGW membership. \nEli Lev is an indie folk musician\, storyteller\, and family historian based in Silver Spring\, Maryland. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Ardon’s 130th Birthday with Jewish Art Education through this virtual public program! \nMordecai Ardon was born in Galicia (now Poland) and studied with Paul Klee at the Bauhaus in Germany during the 1920s. He immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1933.  He painted the landscape as a mystical and luminescent experience and paid homage to Jerusalem. He used symbols to memorialize those lost during the Holocaust and was one of Israel’s greatest painters. \nEnjoy his powerful art\, included in the slideshow as well as the in-depth narration. \nThe presentation will be recorded. DESCRIPTION:This 38-week course is designed for those interested in learning more about Judaism and/or converting. Participants learn both within the classroom and through immersion in the larger Sixth & I and DC community. This class is intended for people who are not Jewish\, or have recently discovered Jewish ancestry. At the end of the program\, non-Jewish participants will be prepared to convert to Judaism or to live as a Ger Toshav (“fellow traveler”) with the Jewish people.   \nThe annual course starts September 1 and runs through June 10\, typically on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 pm. This class includes a mix of lectures\, group activities\, text studies\, and holiday celebrations. No Hebrew language knowledge is required. DESCRIPTION:Mark National Art Day with 21 Jewish Women Artists through this virtual public program! \nJewish Women Artists examines the various art forms created by female painters\, sculptors\, printmakers\, and photographers. Their art reflects their unique life experiences and displays concern for aesthetic issues and social equality. They reacted to the culture and the times in which they lived. Jewish Women Artists surveys the 19th and 20th centuries of Jewish female creativity in the visual arts. \nEnjoy the art of 21 Jewish women included in the slideshow as well as the in-depth narration. \nThe presentation will be recorded.
