Rachel: What brought you to DC?
Ben: Originally to attend GWU, but I have remained in DC to pursue a career in commercial real estate development, investment and brokerage. I think DC is a great city that is very livable, full of interesting, and very smart folks. It’s also a beautiful city that has all the amenities of NY and/or LA, without a lot of the eccentricities.
Rachel: What’s your favorite thing about the DC Jewish community?
Ben: The great mix of intellectuals, secular, and religious Jews and how all different groups get along well with each other and attend each other’s events and generally work together to improve the thriving Jewish community in and around DC, MD, and VA.
Rachel: Have you been to Israel? What is your favorite memory?
Ben: Yes, the beauty and tranquility of Jerusalem, the feeling of belonging, and that no matter where you were born, what language you speak, and what your background is, that as a Jew, we all have a place in the world to call home no matter what world events may bring.
Rachel: What is your favorite Jewish holiday?
Ben: Any Holiday involving good food, although I enjoy the historical references and symbolism and stories behind the holidays as well. Especially all the interesting ones about how we unexpectedly defeated one group or another. Makes for some good storytelling.
Rachel: Who is the coolest Jew?
Ben: Wow, its tough to pick just one, but some of my fav Jews include – Einstein, Ben Gurion, Sigmund Freud, Sergey Brin (co-founder of Google), Lenny Kravitz, and of course who can forget Bob Dylan. You know all the revolutionaries. Many others I am sure I missed as well. I guess we’re just a cool bunch 😉
Rachel: Finish the sentence: When the Jews gather…
Ben: …and work as one united front the possibilities to better the world is limitless.
