Rachel: What brought you to DC?
Sarah: My Sophomore year in high school I registered for AP US History. I really had no expectations for the class other than hopefully getting a few college credits for free. Turns out, the class left a lasting impression. My teacher, Mr. Duffy, was the most inspiring, nuts, and creative teacher that I have ever known. Not only was I pushed to thrive academically, he instilled within each of us a sense of drive and direction. It was that class that pushed me to leave the frozen tundra of Minnesota after high school, and study Government and Politics at University of Maryland. From there, moving to DC came naturally.
Rachel: What is your favorite Jewish food?
Sarah: Easy. Bagel and Lox. I’ll take it over a knish, Hamentashen, or Kugel any day of the week.
Rachel: What is your least favorite Jewish food?
Sarah: I know this isn’t a routine question on Jewish Girl of the Week, but I felt it was necessary to answer – so I added it. Jelly Belly Sunkist Fruit Gems. Refer to the picture. If you have never experienced one of these nasty candies smacking you in the head at Synagogue, feel grateful.
Rachel: Who is the coolest Jew?
Sarah: This is a tough question. There are a ton of pretty groovy Jews out there. I’m going to have to go with the Coen brothers for several reasons.
- My dad went to High school with them, and told me they used to be extremely geeky back in the day. This fact alone makes them even cooler now.
- I tried out for a part in “A Serious Man” at one of their open casting calls in Minnesota. I got a call back and re-auditioned a week later. The story goes downhill from there.
- Fargo. Yeah you Betcha.
Rachel: Finish the sentence: When the Jews gather…
Sarah: That party last night was awfully crazy I wish we taped it… -Asher Roth
