Aaron: What brought you to DC?
Seth: I grew up just outside of Philadelphia, and after spending a gap-year in Israel on Young Judaea Year Course I started at the University of Maryland, College Park.  I graduated in 2011 with a degree in American Studies and Jewish Studies and have been working at my job at Maryland Hillel ( ever since.  I recently moved downtown and have been loving DC life, especially the music scene & Taylor Gourmet Sandwiches.

Aaron: So you work for Hillel. What’s your favorite part of your job?
Seth: Being a young Hillel professional has been a fantastic experience.  I get to work with and learn from thoughtful college students, plan diverse and creative Jewish programs, and network with dozens of other Hillel pros and partner organizations around the country.  My favorite part of the job is the opportunity to travel– since starting at Hillel I’ve been everywhere from Baltimore & St. Louis, to Israel twice (staffing Birthright and a Masa program), and most recently to Zagreb, Croatia for an alternative winter break service trip.  This upcoming spring break, I will be leading another group of students down to New Orleans; I don’t know if I’m more excited for our rebuilding project or to dive in to the city’s unique food and music.seth2

Aaron: What’s your favorite Jewish holiday?
Seth: Not to toot my own horn, but I blow a mean Shofar.  It doesn’t get much sweeter than Rosh Hashanah.

Aaron: Who is the coolest Jew?
Seth: The coolest Jew is Arnold Reuben, the man who invented the original Reuben sandwich in 1914 and named it after himself.  One of my life goals is to reach similar fame and recognition for The Fink, my glorious (and still secret) sandwich recipe.

Aaron: Finish the sentence: When the Jews gather…
Seth: When the Jews gather… make sure to call your mother and let her know you arrived safely!
