Upcoming Lectures on Israel

Those community members interested in Israeli and Middle East politics have a number of great options this week, hosted by regional universities.

New York Times journalist, Ethan Bronner, will be discussing Reporting and Misreporting in the Middle East. Mr. Bronner will combine diplomatic and political analysis with behind-the-scenes stories from his own experience to explore the challenges faced by a journalist covering the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Interested in a more military focus? Then check out this talk by the Jerusalem Post‘s military correspondent, Yaakov Katz. He will be speaking about a variety of issues relating to Israeli national security, including the Iranian nuclear threat, Hizbullah, and the ongoing upheaval in the Middle East.

Of a more economic bent? Come listen to a talk on The Economic Triangle: China, Israel, and the United States. Join Prof. Aron Shai, Rector of Tel Aviv University, a specialist in modern Chinese history and the founder of the University’s Department of East Asian Studies. His lecture at UMD will focus largely on the economic elements tying together the Chinese, Israeli, & U.S. economies.
