Jeffrey Goldberg moving to Tablet

Readers of Jewish and Middle East commentary may be interested to know that Goldblog, the blog of author and DC resident Jeffrey Goldberg, will be moving from The Atlantic to Tablet magazine.

According to Goldberg, who frequently reports on Israel, “we’re entering a period of huge disruption in the relationship between America and Israel, and between American Jews and Israelis, and I want to be able to focus on these conflicts in an intensely granular way, inside the Jewish community.”  For more information, read here.

Goldberg, who wrote for The New Yorker before moving to The Atlantic, is well-known for the book Prisoners: A Story of Friendship and Terror, which details his experience as a guard in an Israeli prison.  During his time at the New Yorker, Goldberg also wrote a two-part piece on Hizbullah that earned him a National Magazine Award for reporting.

I commend him for deciding to devote his energies to writing for the Jewish community. However, I disagree with much of what he says. His views – though well-meaning – often express a very American worldview that is insensitive to what is best for Israelis. Peace must come before a two-state solution and Israel must not think giving back land at this juncture would serve in it’s best interest. Rather, it would put Israel in greater danger. It’s time to stop listening to what the rest of the world thinks and do what is right.
