Pope exonerates Jews for Jesus’ death in new book

The papacy is something of an interest of mine, and though I supported Camillo Ruini in the 2005 election (because I’m a traditionalist, and I think the Pope should be Italian), I’ve been a Ratzinger fan.  Now he’s doing me proud.

From the Yahoo! story:

In “Jesus of Nazareth-Part II” excerpts released Wednesday, Benedict explains biblically and theologically why there is no basis in Scripture for the argument that the Jewish people as a whole were responsible for Jesus’ death.

Not sure how I feel about the “as a whole” language…  Seems to suggest that a few renegade Jews were responsible…   But still, it’s a step in the right direction.

The Pope’s book — from which this excerpt comes — will be available on Amazon shortly.

And for you Catholics who regularly spend time on this blog (…?…), just let me know if you need absolution, and I would be happy to provide it to you in my official capacity as a Jew gatherer.
